There appears to be a possible easter egg regarding Halo Waypoint.  Traviss mentions several times a news agency called "Waypoint."  I, at least, think it's an easter egg, but would like other opinions. AarrowOM 14:02, 26 October 2011 (EDT)

Considering the scope of the novels, comics, etc. over video games, there should be any particular reason why we have a limited section devoted to in-universe assets (characters, locations, vehicles, etc.) for novels. Nothing in the Manual of Style, etc. suggested that this was a policy worth noting. It would be quite wise to continue to have such content on here, and for assets in other expanded universe material. I'm putting this content back on tomorrow morning (good ol' Pacific time) if nobody has anything to rebuttal concerning my recommendation. Cheers!

:Standards for novel articles is to present Characters section only; this is evident in all novel articles (from FoR to Cryptum) and such practice hasn't changed till this novel was released. Also, it is not recorded in the MoS because the MoS is severely outdated. What I wanted to happen: Blue Team meets Forerunners, Blue Team discovers Forerunner Warships and uses them to do...anything, that all the Shield Worlds would be linked and that John would go to the Legendary planet and go to the Shield world and see Blue Team, and that Jorge would come out of SlipStream space inside the sphere and then they would all be frolicking in the grass forever (not really that last part).

I generally didnt enjoy the book. i thought that she left too many unanswered questions, didnt use enough facts from the previous books, and didnt write in the format that was a HALO book. She gave the AI black box a great personality, but he bacame way too human. Or the Spartans, they were to civilian. The fact that she gave them personalities that completly counteracted the stoic quiteness that we are used too, and have come too expect. i thought the book deserves a 2/5. Nothing more, nothing less. very few technology, almost no fights, gave the Sangheili human traits, and butchered what shouldve been a big read.-HTRK74JR

::I share the sentiment HTRK74JR. I'm not a fan of it at all, and as a result I haven't read the rest of the Kilo Five trilogy directly because of that book (though I have read synopses, which suffice for the core information. I remember reading a statement of hers that she doesn't like to know too much about a universe that she's writing about (which results in writing from ignorance,) so that she doesn't form biases with characters and the like. Something that's ridiculous, as Glasslands would have had the very applicable "Halsey is Hitler and everyone suddenly hates her". In earlier novels, we certainly got characters that rivaled Halsey, and the morally questionable nature of the Spartan II program was never shied away from. But Traviss took all of that and just ramped it up to 11, so much so that it was ridiculous and broke several character personalities - Halsey included. It's my theory that everything from Halo 4 to Halo 5 (including Hunt the Truth) was done to solve the many problems introduced by Glasslands.

::The problems that I have with the book are myriad. I could go on a very lengthy rant about it all, but I'll stick to the bigger ones.

::First and foremost, there's the complete ignoring of how strong Spartans are. Even Spartan III's. When Halsey is threatening the Huragok with a pistol (which is radically out of character for Halsey), Lucy-B091 attacks her. It is described that Lucy punched Halsey the big-bad-bully in the face with such force that it "sent a shock wave right up her arm." (Glasslands, pg. 316-17) Lucy was in-armor. She's a Spartan, and has augmented strength on top of the augmentations provided by her armor. By all rights, Halsey should be dead, and her face should be a pulp. But she gets up with nothing worse than a bloody nose.

::Then there's Mendez's completely 180° in sentiment towards the Spartan program. A man who, in all other media, understands the risks and necessities of the program, and takes great pride in the soldiers that he trained, now is a simpering, cigar chomping crybaby who - you guessed it - hates Halsey the Big Bad Bully. Despite the program never being hers, and despite the numerous higher-ups of CENCOM that deemed it an absolute necessity, it's all Halsey's fault and she's the worst person who's ever lived.

::Ah, and then there's Vasily. The ODST with a heart of applesauce. One of the bigger problems introduced by this book (and I think addressed by Hunt the Truth: Season 1) was the straight-up dissemination of information on the Spartan II and Spartan III programs. Parangosky just handing it to some random ODST squad (and somehow, then, everyone knows). The whole bit with him being so enraged that he was going to march down and murder Halsey was just ridiculous, and his whole infatuation with Naomi was childish (I thought) and out of place.

::I know Traviss also has a penchant for killing off major characters - particularly in the Star Wars novels - and I'm glad she didn't get to do that to the Arbiter. She came close, and thanks to her inclusions we saw the Swords of Sanghelios with their backs literally to the wall.

::I'm fine with characters hating Halsey. Ackerson and Parangosky have always opposed her, and it only follows that Parangosky's protege would also be taught to hate her. But to have everyone hate her and literally compare her to Hitler is way too far, and canonically wrong. I'm even fine with ODST liking - maybe even being infatuated with - Spartans, but having some ODST be overly-protective and chivalrous towards a Spartan is just silly. To me, it just was not a good book, and didn't add much of anything with any value to the Halo universe. Even Jul 'Mdama was a mediocre villain, who is outshined significantly by Atriox and even Sangheili within his own ranks. The Ragin Pagan (talk) 18:20, 27 November 2018 (EST)

Hay there, i was just wondering if the book takes place during halo 3 due to seeing something in the back of the definitive edition of halo: first strike with the debriefing of Frederic-104, it said he had the rank of Lieutenant but he did not receive that rank till the end of ghosts of onyx. Please can you answer this comment cause if what i'm asking is not correct 343 got that debriefing wrong by giving him the wrong rank cause there is only 2 possible times this debriefing would of token place, after first strike when the spartans returned to earth or during glassland which would have had to have taken place during halo 3 while the covenant were still attacking earth.

Washouts[edit]

Based on information from the SDCC 2011 Panel, it appears that some of the rehabilitated washouts from the Class I SPARTAN-II's (as well as Dr. Halsey) are being included in Glasslands. Where/how should this be included?

Spartan 501 02:46, 24 July 2011 (EDT)

Other characters[edit]

Do we have any confirmation that Fred, Kelly, or Linda will be in Glasslands?--ハローファン (H1234-NET) 00:39, 28 July 2011 (EDT)

They'll most definitely be in the novel; but we'll wait until we get more solid info, an excerpt, or the novel's release to add them. CommanderTony
Alright sounds good.--ハローファン (H1234-NET) 00:57, 28 July 2011 (EDT)
In addition to my previous question, seeing that there is a mission to Sanghelios, could Arbiter Thel Vadam make an appearance?--ハローファン (H1234-NET) 18:38, 11 August 2011 (EDT)
Yes he COULD but we don't know if they will--210.56.81.176 23:15, 11 August 2011 (EDT)
Okay, but please don't use caps. I intrepet that as yelling at me.--ハローファン (H1234-NET) 23:17, 11 August 2011 (EDT)

Rehabilitated SPARTAN-II[edit]

Is Sarah Osbun the "rehabilitated SPARTAN-II candidate, previously thought to have been washed out"? --Nup(T) 08:02, 28 July 2011 (EDT)

That would seem most likely. The plot summary needs an update with info from the podcast. --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 08:11, 28 July 2011 (EDT)

Another New SPARTAN-II?[edit]

Anyone else really think throwing a new Spartan-II at the already broken list of S-II's is a bit much? And there's also the issue of the meeting with The Arbiter and Kaidon thingy taking place in January, 2553. That means that Arbiter was found on Earth, taken back to Sanghellios by Vadum without Vadum seeing the planet, then back to Earth for the memorial, then back to his homeworld. SomethingDifferent 04:09, 13 October 2011 (EDT)

Naomi-010 is the new S-II, forgot to name her in there. ^ SomethingDifferent 04:10, 13 October 2011 (EDT)
Maybe another rehabilitated Spartan-II? Would seem logical if Halsey actually got to saving deceased/malformed Spartans. What I'm more curious about is how Naomi survived Reach. Even with the 25 gathered there, the 3 of Grey team and all of the KIA'd Spartans, there should have been even more survivors then. --Thijsbos 04:10, 17 October 2011 (EDT)
Regarding the Arbiter not seeing Earth the first time around (during his rescue at the end of Halo 3), it doesn't seem that unusual. With the war literally just having ended, would any former member of the Covenant be safe on Earth? (Baring, of course, whomever ONI has locked up somewhere.) The delay would allow some things to settle down. AarrowOM 14:05, 26 October 2011 (EDT)

Easter Eggs[edit]

There appears to be a possible easter egg regarding Halo Waypoint. Traviss mentions several times a news agency called "Waypoint." I, at least, think it's an easter egg, but would like other opinions. AarrowOM 14:02, 26 October 2011 (EDT)

I first thought that too, when one of the quotes mentions "Waypoint Nine News". Col. Snipes450 14:05, 26 October 2011 (EDT)

That's indeed ann Easter Egg. But Halsey's Journal also contained several news bulletins that were from 'Waypoint'. Definately an homage. There's already a page on it though.--Thijsbos 02:52, 2 December 2011 (EST)

Game only appearance list[edit]

Considering the scope of the novels, comics, etc. over video games, there should be any particular reason why we have a limited section devoted to in-universe assets (characters, locations, vehicles, etc.) for novels. Nothing in the Manual of Style, etc. suggested that this was a policy worth noting. It would be quite wise to continue to have such content on here, and for assets in other expanded universe material. I'm putting this content back on tomorrow morning (good ol' Pacific time) if nobody has anything to rebuttal concerning my recommendation. Cheers! CommanderTony

Standards for novel articles is to present Characters section only; this is evident in all novel articles (from FoR to Cryptum) and such practice hasn't changed till this novel was released. Also, it is not recorded in the MoS because the MoS is severely outdated. I suggest the administration team to look into these policies and style guides, and update them to promote consistency, clarity and quality. :) — subtank 19:55, 27 October 2011 (EDT)
Very well, i'll look into this later. Please void the content re-add deadline as that won't be necessary. Thank you. CommanderTony

First![edit]

Literally JUST finished Halo: Glasslands, and I must say I am thoroughly impressed with Travis' work. Is it just me or does it seem like Ms. Travis ripped out the ending style from Halo 2? Seriously, it doesn't end! It just stops!!!

Also, I would like to know some of the community's thoughts on the book, so below, put your favorite part of the story. Basically I want to ask you guys what you knew would happen before you ever read the book (so even before you even read the briefest excerpts), what you wanted to happen, and then just put your general thoughts about it. I would also like you to tell me your Rose, Thorn, and Bud of the story. Your rose is your favorite part, your thorn is your least-favorite part, and your bud is what you hope comes from the next novel.

*SPOILERS*

So I guess I'll start: My Rose is Lucy beating the shit outa Halsey. Seriously. While most people I know think Halsey's right and that she shouldn't be hated. I truly hate that bitch, and I felt some kind of relief when somebody finally put that senile women in place.

Thorn: She survived -.- This is not really a thorn, just a comment: I think that the whole thing with Installation 03 should have been the end of the book. It just seemed like a good place to end the story, and possibly save the rest of it for the beginning of Halo: Glasslands 2.

I really can't think of a Bud, it's probably because I just finished reading it and can't decide what should come next yet.

What I knew what would happen before I even read it was: Would say what happen to Halsey and the gang, Halsey gets Forerunner technology, they get out of the Dyson Sphere, and that they meet some kind of intelligent life form in the sphere.

My general thoughts: I really liked the book. Keep 'em coming, Travis! Vegerot goes RAWR! Vegerot (talk) 20:56, 5 November 2011 (EDT)

*SPOILERS END*

No? Nobody has ANYTHING to say about this? There was nothing they found notable at all???

Remember this book is part of a series of books, so any questions in this book should be answered in future books.--Commander Halofan1234 (I say the cabal does not exist) 23:09, 1 December 2011 (EST)
I share the sentiment HTRK74JR.
The problems that I have with the book are myriad. I could go on a very lengthy rant about it all, but I'll stick to the bigger ones.
First and foremost, there's the complete ignoring of how strong Spartans are.
Then there's Mendez's completely 180° in sentiment towards the Spartan program.
Ah, and then there's Vasily.
I know Traviss also has a penchant for killing off major characters - particularly in the Star Wars novels - and I'm glad she didn't get to do that to the Arbiter. She came close, and thanks to her inclusions we saw the Swords of Sanghelios with their backs literally to the wall.
I'm fine with characters hating Halsey.

SPARTAN-225

Glasslands takes place between January and March 2553, making it mostly after Halo 3.--Spartacus TalkContribs

Colonies left[edit]

Does halo glasslands answers questions like how many colonies are left and what the human population is like and what they are doing with forunner technology—This unsigned comment was made by Spartan Matt (talkcontribs). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

It just talks about colonies that have been glassed and colonies that are homeworlds of the characters.--Lt. Commander 光环的家伙1234 Talk (Contribs) (Edits) 00:00, 7 November 2011 (EST)
There is some mention of integration of Forerunner tech by humans, but basically, yea it's just the glassed colonies and the characters homeworlds.Col. Snipes450 01:32, 7 November 2011 (EST)

Summary[edit]

Somebody please update the plot section of this page ASAP. I still haven't gotten a copy, so I can't. But this NEEDS to be written, all the other pages are already. pestilence Phil, pestilence! 17:35, 11 December 2011 (EST)

No kidding, hence the reason the out of date template is on the article.--Commander Halofan1234 (I say the cabal does not exist) 17:37, 11 December 2011 (EST)
I read the book and may work on it. It seems that no one has given it a try so I might. I went ahead and changed "Plot" to say "Plot Synopsis" since its not really the whole summary. If I get a whole summary written I'll go ahead and add the "Plot" section below "Plot Synopsis".--Killamint 11:14, 21 January 2012 (EST)
Go ahead.--Spartacus TalkContribs
Sure thing commander. I'll try to have something done the end of this month or sometime next month unless someone beats me to it. I see that Halo: Primordium's plot was already posted before Glasslands' plot which is kinda funny.--Killamint 16:03, 21 January 2012 (EST)
Yeah, you should have seen how long it took Cryptum to get a summary.--Spartacus TalkContribs
Based off how long that summary is I see why. I've made some progress with summarizing Glasslands' plot. So far I'm up to page 79. And so far I believe it's going to be just as long as Cryptum if not longer. Even then I have to make sure it meets Wiki's standards so it may take longer. Not an expert when it comes to summarizing a story but I try...--Killamint 16:47, 22 January 2012 (EST)
 • Just to keep anyone who's paying attention in the loop, I'm still working on the summary. It's been awhile and I've been busy but it's coming, just taking a little more time than expected. I'm a little more than halfway through the book now. Just keeping everyone & anyone posted. --Killamint 17:10, 7 March 2012 (EST)
Almost there, I should be done by tommorrow or Tuesday. Also I found something else interesting. It's more of a "sequel thread". On page 422, BB, while talking to Osman about the Infinity, says "You're the heir to the ONI throne, my dear. I imagine you can do anything you like when the time comes. We might even get you on a Thursday war." Funny...thats the name of the sequel to Glasslands.--Killamint 19:17, 18 March 2012 (EDT)
Okay, the plot will be posted very soon, right now it is under review by a top Halopedian. Once he sends it back I'll post it immediately.--Killamint 12:55, 21 March 2012 (EDT)

Possible Halo 4 Thread[edit]

Currently I'm working on summarizing the Halo: Glasslands plot. I was reading page 213 and the character Devereaux says to Vaz "Hey, you know that suit maintains and upgrades itself when she's in cryo? It's all nanotech." She was referring to Naomi's Mjolnir armor. I missed it the first time I read the book but now that I've caught it, it seems like an obvious clue to why Master Cheif's armor will change in Halo 4. As I find more clues I'll post them here. Find anything else please post it here.--Killamint 12:27, 12 February 2012 (EST)

I can see the armour identifying damaged areas and repairing them when it's out of combat, and maybe even noting weak areas and bulking them up using nanotech, but building a jetpack from scratch? That might be beyond it.--The All-knowing Sith'ari 12:35, 12 February 2012 (EST)
I agree. That is a bit of a hefty upgrade to materialize from nanotech but at the same time the jetpack may have been for "artistic" purposes (to give the chief his acrobats in the trailer) and may not be part of the suit or could be something that was added later after the automated upgrades. At the same time the extent of those nano upgrades hasn't been identified. So its theoretical for now.--Killamint 12:52, 12 February 2012 (EST)
I remember someone suggesting somewhere that Cortana was the one who beefed up the Warthogs in Forza 4 with survival gear, rather than just being powered down the whole time. It sounds reasonable, and if you accept that, it also sounds reasonable that she puyt her considerable intellect towards designing and fabricating a new, more advanced powered armour system for the Chief using the limited construction tools and resources of the FUD's armoury and vehicle maintenance sections. She is, after all, based on the mind of its creator, Dr. Halsey, and we know that an AI who doesn't keep busy is an AI on the short path to rampancy - it not only improves the Chief's survival prospects, but it lengthens her own lifespan too. -- Specops306 Autocrat Qur'a 'Morhek 18:27, 12 February 2012 (EST)

Plot[edit]

The plot has finally been added by me. Feel free to modify, edit, add to, and summarize better the plot at will. --Killamint 18:52, 2 April 2012 (EDT)

Wow... quite lengthy. Summarise template added. — subtank 19:13, 2 April 2012 (EDT)
I tried my best to make it short but at the same time this is my first time writing a summary for a book so summarizing is not my best suit. Its not a problem that you put the tag there; I just hope that someone can shorten it for me. I'm just glad that somethings there to work on instead of what it was before.:) --Killamint 19:34, 2 April 2012 (EDT)
It's a good thing to have something, but I have to agree it's a little long. Cutting it down to about a fourth of the length wouldn't hurt. To put things into perspective, I've been meaning to summarize the synopsis of Halo: Cryptum for a while, and that's just about 1/4 of the length of this thing. Props for the hard work though; must've taken some time. --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 06:43, 3 April 2012 (EDT)
Thanks for the props but yeah, it is mad long and too long. I anticapted catching some heat for it but I attempted the un-done. I can try to shorten the plot but It'll take some more time. I may use Halo: Cryptum and Primordium as templates for guidance. I actually have ideas of how to make it shorter based on those novels. So I'll give it a shot [again] if no one else agrees to the task (unlikely since the plot was never [fully] written since October 2011). --Killamint 10:00, 3 April 2012 (EDT)

It's really long, but it's REALLY good. So I have an idea: summarize the summary on this page, and then at the top, have "Main Article: Halo: Glasslands summary". That way we can still keep your amazing summary, and keep the clutter on this page down. (or so it says in the sacred caves) Vegerot! 10:47, 3 April 2012 (EDT)!

Wholly unnecessary for a page (or a subpage) for a summary. There should only be one summary and that summary should be summarised as short as possible without leaving any crucial detail (hence why they call it a summary).— subtank 11:07, 3 April 2012 (EDT)
@Vegerot! Thanks man! Well now that you mentioned it, I can add my summary to my user page somewhere (probably user:talk) for anyone to look at and post the link somewhere here in discussions, and of course shorten up the summary for the article. --Killamint 12:45, 3 April 2012 (EDT)

I re-summarized the plot. I did the best I can do at this point. Its still a little long but alot shorter than what it was before. If you feel you can do better, be my guess. --Killamint 20:21, 4 April 2012 (EDT)

 • Kudos to Jugus for vastly shortening the plot! I believe its good/short enough. So with that being said, is it okay if we take down the "Summarize section" tag? Or is the plot still too long? --Killamint 18:14, 27 April 2012 (EDT)

Nevermind. Thanks Jugus. --Killamint KillaEX 12:40, 20 May 2012 (EDT)
