Japan is an island nation in the Pacific Ocean on Earth.
History
In 1597, a Japanese fleet of 133 was defeated by 13 ships commanded by Admiral Yi Sun-sin at the Myeongnyang Strait.[2]
In World War II, Isoroku Yamamoto crippled the US Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor.[2] The war came to a close with humanity's first use of nuclear weapons at Hiroshima and Nagasaki.[3] The bomb at Hiroshima left a domed structure still standing.[1]
Economy and society
Japan is crowded and economically volatile. It is, however, consequently well-endowed with scientists, economists, and global culturalism, making it technologically advanced as well. The United Nations Space Command has long taken an interest in Asia for no better reason than its vast size. Japan has always held a great amount of sway in the UEG, and its position on the world stage did not change when the UNSC gained more power during the Human-Covenant War.[4]
AMG Transport Dynamics held a facility in Chiba.[5]
Trivia
- Project HAYABUSA, TEISHIN-class Mjolnir, RAIJIN-class Mjolnir, and SHINOBI-class Mjolnir all draw heavily from Japanese influences.
- The UNSC "smart" AI construct known as Kusanagi was named after a legendary Japanese sword.
- The UNSC Musashi, a carrier in service with the UNSC Navy during the Human-Covenant War, could have been named after a number of things from Japanese history.
- A UNSC destroyer, the UNSC Iwo Jima, was named after the Japanese island of the same name.
