(Based on the 2003 copy of the novel, the Marine who greeted the Chief after he returned to the surface was only referred to as "a Corporal", and never Lovik. The group was also never called "second squad" either.)

"Captain? Sarge? Can you hear me? We’ve got contact! Lots of them! But they’re not Covenant! They’re just tearing through us! What the...?!! ...no!!!"
— Corporal Lovik’s distress call to SSgt Johnson

Corporal Lovik was a UNSC Marine corporal attached to the UNSC Pillar of Autumn in 2552.

Biography

When the Pillar of Autumn arrived at Threshold and crashed onto Installation 04, Lovik abandoned the ship and landed on Halo with the rest of the jumped crew. He then joined the rest of the survivors at the UNSC makeshift Alpha Base.

Corporal Lovik was a UNSC Marine NCO, and led the second squad in a recon mission on a believed Covenant base that included Privates Riley, Manuel Mendoza, Kappus, Bisenti, Private First Class Wallace Jenkins, and Staff Sergeant Avery Johnson.[1]

Unknown to the group, they were actually heading to a Flood containment facility, where the Covenant had already accidentally released the Flood. Lovik was among the first group of humans attacked by the Flood, and desperately raised Johnson and Captain Jacob Keyes over radio, though incoherently.[2]

Lovik and his men had then been attacked by a group of Flood, and it is unknown whether Lovik was turned into a Flood combat form, or was picked up by Echo 419, but his death was confirmed when John-117 detonated the Pillar of Autumn's fusion reactors.[3]

Production notes

During the Halo: Combat Evolved cutscene in which he contacted Johnson and Keyes, Lovik was voiced by Bungie employee Chris Carney.[4]
