| During the opening stages of the Battle of Earth on [[2552#October|October 20th, 2552]], Harper was ordered to form a defensive perimeter around [[Cairo Station]]'s battle cluster. Harper then commanded his fleet directly into the [[Covenant Empire|Covenant]] forces.<ref>[[Cairo Station (level)|Cairo Station]], [[Halo 2]], beginning cutscene</ref> Shortly after the Covenant arrival, the Fleet was split into two groups. First Echelon was controlled by Harper and was in charge of destroying the [[CCS-class Battlecruiser]]s and the Second Echelon was charged in stopping the [[Assault Carrier]]s attempting to break through Earth's defenses. One of the Cruisers was severely damaged by the other Assault Carrier.
