:Maybe we should consider some of the options first. I came to wonder if this can even be called a "Battle of Earth". It's nowhere near the scale of most battles and the Didact's ship was the only place where there was any fighting. Given the fact the battle was mostly a one-man raid, with some backup from the fleet, maybe it would be more apt to classify this as a raid? "Raid on the Didact's ship"? "Raid on the Composer"? Naming[edit]
I think that Battles aren't supposed to be called "Second/Third/Etc Battle of Wherever" if they took place in different wars, as shown here. Tuckerscreator(stalk) 15:15, 8 November 2012 (EST)
- I agree, this a different conflict. "Battle of Earth (Human-Promethean War)", or "Battle of Earth (2557)".Col. Snipes450 15:26, 8 November 2012 (EST)
The latter is what Wikipedia uses, and is easier to link. If there are no objections then we can move this page. Tuckerscreator(stalk) 15:33, 8 November 2012 (EST)
- Maybe we should consider some of the options first. Or, possibly, "Skirmish over Earth?" Any ideas are welcome though.--Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 15:35, 8 November 2012 (EST)
- Good point, I like the "raid" idea, "Raid on Didact's ship" seems like the best option. Col. Snipes450 15:45, 8 November 2012 (EST)
Well, the Chief was raiding, but the Didact was the one to attack first, specifically Earth, and he was engaging with UNSC ships and orbital defense offscreen. Since John and Cortana's raid wasn't the only aspect of the battle, then possibly Skirmish might be the better name. Tuckerscreator(stalk) 16:05, 8 November 2012 (EST)
- It should be named the Battle of Earth (Human-Promethean War).Sith-venator Wavingstrider (Commlink) 18:33, 8 November 2012 (EST)
- The year is a better descriptor than "Human-Promethean War", since the name of the war is merely a descriptor and not an official name.--Spartacus Talk • Contribs 18:38, 8 November 2012 (EST)
- Other wikis use the war in the () not the year. Example: Battle of Coruscant (Clone Wars).Sith-venator Wavingstrider (Commlink) 18:48, 8 November 2012 (EST)
- The year is a better descriptor than "Human-Promethean War", since the name of the war is merely a descriptor and not an official name.--Spartacus Talk • Contribs 18:38, 8 November 2012 (EST)
July[edit]
It said on the article that this event took place during the month of July, but i never remember seeing snow in canada especially in Québec and south Ontario. If you look carefully on the picture snow are clearly visible in those place CF0UoH/A Company|0]]1 13:27, 9 November 2012 (EST)
- Errrr... global warming! Yeah, global warming... Tuckerscreator(stalk) 17:15, 9 November 2012 (EST)
- Perhaps the glassing of Voi really did screw up global weather patterns. Or it could just be a small visual error. Karl-591 15:20, 10 November 2012 (EST)
Didact KIA?[edit]
In the article's infobox it lists the Didact with the KIA symbol next to his name. However, we do not know for sure if the Didact really died in the battle; it wouldn't have been impossible for him to escape, and the post-credits cutscene depicts the Didact giving a monologue regarding the battle and, iirc, announced his intention to return. We just don't know for sure whether or not he actually died, and since we have a lack of evidence, I think it's safe to remove the KIA symbol until further canon confirms or denies this. 76.105.110.9 13:41, 10 November 2012 (EST)
- We can only surmise the status of a person from what we've seen or what we've read. All points at the time of MIDNIGHT shows that the Didact fell to his death aboard Mantle's Approach. The time frame in the epilogue is also determinable. Didact's monologue may suggest that he is speaking before the Ecumene council or another legislative or judicial body, under a tribunal for his actions against our ancient ancestors at Charum Hakkor. Silentium may partially take place in a contemporary setting and give us the whereabouts of John's arch nemesis, but more than likely, we'll have to wait until Halo 5. Grizzlei ♥ ツ
- Based on the information we have, there isn't anything explicitly stating that he's dead either, in-universe or otherwise. Though clearly injured, he wasn't dead when he fell into a slipspace rupture and those tend to lead somewhere. I think it's too early to make claims either way - given the slipspace element, this is hardly different from Dr. Glassman's supposed "death" a while ago. --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 02:27, 27 November 2012 (EST)
The guy took a grenade to the chest and several shots from a hard light rifle unarmored. I wouldn't be surprised if he lived. Tuckerscreator(stalk) 14:35, 10 November 2012 (EST)
Infinity's guns[edit]
Since there is some dispute on this issue, it may as well get discussed.
My view is we have to go by the canon armament information given by 343 which states Infinity's main guns are 4 CR-08, Series-8 MACs. There is no record that Infinity is armed with reverse engineered Forerunner or Covenant weapons, all of the guns seen in other cutscenes and gameplay are of human designs.
The visual 'beam' like look of Infinity's main weapons are simply that, a visual effect that looks cool. In canon, they're MAC rounds because nothing else makes sense. If later information is released that they are infact some sort of laser or projector weapon, we can always chance it. This isn't the first time canon information has been misrepresented in visuals. Manwiththegun 16:26, 12 November 2012 (EST)
- I'm not sure. We hear about the Mantle's Approach being hit with MACs, and having no effect. Plus if this were a MAC, it would have caused far more damage than a tiny hole. An unshielded ship, no matter what it was made of, would have shattered, or at least have a tunnel plowed through it. Lasers, being light, can bypass shields yet have minimal effect on its hull. Plus, I listened through the whole first half of the level, and Lasky never calls them MACs. The closest he gets is saying "prepare firing solution", which suggests to me a solution that creates a chemical laser from a reaction. Note the solution used by pulse laser turrets. Those four MACs you mention, I assume, are the ones we see on the side of the ship during the level Infinity, which resemble the Onager. Tuckerscreator(stalk) 16:47, 12 November 2012 (EST)
- "Firing solution" merely suggests trajectory between a ship's gun batteries and her target. Grizzlei ♥ ツ
- Ah. Well, I took it to mean a chemical solution. Perhaps we could leave the article's description ambiguous, because the fired weapons don't seem to behave like MACs. Tuckerscreator(stalk) 17:41, 12 November 2012 (EST)
