Mare Insularum is a mare on Luna located in the Insularum basin just south of Mare Imbrium. "Mare Insularum" means "sea of islands" in Latin. Its name came from the fact that old astronomists from antiquity believed that the Moon had water on it, and that Mare Insularum was actually a sea.
The entire mare was domed off, sealed from vacuum, to allow oxygen circulation and human settlements. It was the location of Armstrong Alley. Jacob Keyes' apartment was located there on Luna, where he lived with his daughter, Miranda, when she studied at the Academy at Mare Nubium.[1]
