This unidentified Master Gunnery Sergeant was a non-commissioned officer in charge of Cairo Station's armory. On October 20, 2552, he helped John-117 get used to his new Mark VI armor.

Biography

Some time after John-117 arrived at Cairo Station, the Master Gunnery Sergeant fitted him with the Mark VI armor that Maria-062 had tested earlier. The Sergeant was initially annoyed with how much damage the Chief's old Mark V armor had taken, but then decided it was all obsolete anyway. The Master Gunnery Sergeant also briefed the Master Chief on the shields of the new armor. After testing the armor's energy shielding at the energy shield test station, Sergeant Major Avery Johnson arrived at the armory to lead John-117 to the ceremony held in the orbital platform's bridge. When the Master Gunnery Sergeant asked how Johnson survived the Battle of Installation 04, Johnson told him it was "classified". As a result, the Gunnery Sergeant replied that Johnson could forget the adjustments to his A2 scope he had asked the Gunnery Sergeant to make.

Later that day, the Master Gunnery Sergeant was killed when Covenant forces invaded the station. Two Sangheili entered his armory and fired upon him, and he returned fire with a shotgun. John-117, on his way to find the Covenant bomb located elsewhere on the station, entered the armory just in time to see the Sergeant killed by plasma fire. Though unable to save the Master Gunnery Sergeant, John-117 swiftly avenged his death.

• In the level The Armory, he is referred to as "Master Guns" by Sergeant Major Johnson. This is an informal address for a Master Gunnery Sergeant, as well as a way of Johnson to say "master of the armory."
• The Master Gunnery Sergeant's last words vary depending on the level of difficulty:
  • Easy/Normal: "Get the hell out of my armory, split-lip!"
  • Heroic: "Tell your friends I got enough ammo for all of 'ya!"
  • Legendary: "Come on, is that a weapon or a flashlight? Oh, dangit—!"
• If the player waits underneath the Armory away from the stairs before entering it, the Gunnery Sergeant is invincible. He will hold off the two Elites, but he cannot kill them and will die as soon as the player enters the Armory. On Legendary, one can wait as he takes down the Elites' shield before going up and engaging them.
• On rare occasion if the player move fast enough, they can kill the two Sangheili and save the Master Gunnery Sergeant. This accomplishes little, though, as he does not move.
