(It's kinda like how Jim Kirk lost the Enterprise, got demoted from rear admiral to captain, and later received command of the Enterprise-A. Actually, it's almost just like that. :)) |

The UNSC Leviathan, affectionately known as the Levi,[1] was a Marathon-class heavy cruiser in the UNSC Navy. It served as the flagship of Battlegroup Leviathan and was commanded by Vice Admiral Michael Stanforth, the head of ONI Section Three.[2]
Service history
The Leviathan was a veteran vessel, having been in numerous engagements. During the Battle of Sigma Octanus IV on July 17, 2552, the ship's bow was struck by a Covenant plasma torpedo, which started fires in the ship's foredecks.[2] After the battle, the Leviathan returned to Reach, where it was determined that repairs would take at least two months.[1] Stanforth then sent a request to FLEETCOM, asking for the ship's crew to be transferred to the Template:UNSCship while he "made rounds" at HIGHCOM Facility Bravo-6 in Sydney, Australia on Earth.[1]
The Leviathan had presumably been repaired by August 30, 2552, the final day of the Fall of Reach. Soon after the arrival of the Covenant's Fleet of Particular Justice, the Leviathan was destroyed and Stanforth was killed.[3]

Note
- ^ Jump up to: a b According to the Halo Encyclopedia, the Marathon class was introduced as a replacement for the aging Halcyon class. The Halcyon was designed in 2510 and likely did not enter service until years later. However, The Impossible Life and the Possible Death of Preston J. Cole depicts a ship called the Leviathan under the command of then-Admiral Harold Stanforth in June 2503. One may infer that the Leviathan mentioned in the story was an earlier ship that served as the Marathon-class Leviathan's namesake, as well as a previous flagship for the same commanding officer. See here for more details.
