The MJOLNIR [G], also known as GUNGNIR, is a variant of the MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor manufactured by Hannibal Weapon Systems[1]. Developed as a part of the GUNGNIR Program, the GUNGNIR variant consists of a helmet, shoulder pauldrons and knee guards.[2] The system was utilized for the Mark V and GEN2 systems.
Characteristics
GEN1
Helmet Characteristics
- Base price: 250,000 cR, Brigadier[2]
- HU/RS price: 125,000 cR, Brigadier[2]
- CRBN price: 400,000 cR, Mythic[2]
The GUNGNIR helmet is boxy and comes with more facial protection than any other helmet as it fully covers the front of the head and it replaces the usage of a visor with a small camera on the left that displays the outside to the user. The plating on the helmet takes the secondary armor color, with visor color only determining the color of the plating's video camera "eye". It bears a white stripe running down the right side with the Norse symbol for Gungnir in the center.[2]
Two upgrades are available for the helmet, the first adds a Hardened Uplink/Remote Sensor Package on the left side (HU/RS) and the second adds a Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Module with a Hardened Uplink/Remote Sensor Package that also has the HU/RS system on the right side of the helmet, though the description fails to mention that it comes included. The CBRN attachment is not the typical tube placed below the jaw and instead has the same CBRN rebreathers that are visible on most verions of the EOD helmet.
Shoulder characteristics
The Supplemental Armor, Pauldron, MJOLNIR Mk. V [G] is curved and covers most of the shoulder and upper arm. It bears something of a resemblance to the shoulder of the Security armor, but doesn't wrap around the shoulder as much. The UNSC Marine and UNSC Army uniforms both make use of a modified version of the GUNGNIR pauldron in their armor, as well.
Knee guard characteristics
- Price: 25,000 cR, Captain[2]
The GUNGNIR knee guards primarily protect the knee cap and also cover some parts surrounding it. The kneeguards are primarily used by the Orbital Drop Shock Troopers.
GEN2
Helmet
The GEN2 GUNGNIR helmet, unlike its Mark V iteration, is round. Like the previous iterations, there is no visor, but the video camera has moved from the right side to the left side of the helmet. The helmet is less angular overall.
Trivia
- The armor designation "GUNGNIR" by itself is a reference to Odin's magical spear of the same name, which he used to take out one of his eyes. This is a theme of the Spartan armor systems as MJOLNIR is the name of Thor's hammer.
- The GUNGNIR helmet has only one video camera "eye" on one side of the face; in Norse mythology, the god Odin also had one eye.
