Braidenvl's board-to-board with Vegerot
In response to your recent change to the Halo: Glasslands page: Can you please be more specific as to where in the Podcast your facts are? Thank you.
In response to your conversation with Exalted Obliteration: "crotch less detailed" :/ Why you lookin' there, son? JK.
I completely agree about the in-game damage of weapons, but I wasn't referring to gameplay mechanics. What I meant is that we don't ignore canon material because it is seemingly minor, such as the manual's description of Sprint. Of course, from a game design perspective, Bungie added Sprint to add variety to the sandbox, but it does exist in canon. Sure, the description is meant to lampshade the fact that the device exists in-game, but it is canonically valid.
But there IS throwaway fluff. For example, we completely disregard in the games where the Plasma weapons are clearly unable to be headshot capable. Where we all know that is merely because of gameplay, and Plasma is more effective than UNSC Projectiles in that regard. So to this may merely be a thing added by Bungie just to make Sprint less than a thing they pulled out of their butt. Also, I believe that in the MJOLNIR armor, when you reach a certain speed, or bend yourself in some way, the armor will give you a warning, like, "WARNING: SPEED EXCEEDING RECOMMENDED PARAMETERS. WARNING: EXTREME PRESSURE ON ACHILLES TENDON." But would never not allow you to reach a certain speed.
During the test, John reached about 65mph, tearing his Achilles tendon in the process. I agree that the safety inhibitors probably should have kicked in before that could happen, but the fact that they didn't activate isn't proof that they don't exist. Absence of evid... well, you know. The Halo: Reach manual clearly states that they do exist; since there is no "throwaway fluff" within the Halo series, we can't simply dismiss their existence. Remember that Cortana was integrated with John during the test. It is entirely possible that she overrode the safety actuators to allow John to run at such tremendous - if dangerous - speeds. If she didn't let him run at his full potential, he probably would have been killed.
Re: Your edit to MJOLNIR Mark V: But as I said in my summary --regardless of how fast he ran-- is that if the Safety Inhibitors didn't kick in, even when John was running that fast, than when would they kick in? If there were safety inhibitors then they probably would have kicked in at maybe 80 or 85.
