Overview
Overview
The XBR55 is a long-barreled bullpup battle rifle equipped with a telescopic sight. The weapon fires 9.5×40mm round from a 60-round magazine. It was later remodeled to suppress 'walking.'
The prototype BR-55 Battle Rifle (likely referred to with an X for experimental XBR-55, BXR-55 BRX-55, etc. etc.) is “a prototype long barreled weapon with an optical scope.” The weapon fires 9.5MMx40 FMJ SAP ammunition from a 60 round magazine It was used during the Harvest event by Staff Sergeants' Avery J. Johnson and Nolan Byrne as well as their militia squads' marksmen during the year 2525.

It was issued to Staff Sergeants Avery Johnson and Nolan Byrne as well as their militia squads' marksmen, Critchley and Jenkins by Lieutenant Commander Jilan al-Cygni for use during the Harvest event during the year 2525. This was the first weapon to be used against the Covenant and caused the first alien casualty in the Human-Covenant War. The battle rifle was used extensively in the following battle to protect Harvest's citizens.

Trivia
Trivia
*The prototype resembles the BR55 Heavy Barrel Service Rifle much more than the standard BR55 model in the cover of Halo: Contact Harvest.
*The prototype Battle rifle has a 60 round clip.
*When first assessed by Avery Johnson, he observed that the weapon had a 60 round magazine. However, the Contact Harvest cover shows the ammo count as the standard 36. Johnson may have already fired off a few shots, or this could be an error on the part of the cover artist as this is the magazine count portrayed for a battle rifle in the games.
*This was the first weapon to be used agains the Covenant.
