==Overview==
The XBR55 is a long-barreled bullpup battle rifle equipped with a [[telescopic sight]]. The weapon fires [[M634 Experimental High-Powered Semi-Armor-Piercing|9.5×40mm round]] from a 60-round magazine.<ref>'''Halo: Contact Harvest''', ''pages 132-133''</ref> It was later remodeled to suppress 'walking.'<ref name="ENC"/>

It was issued to [[Staff Sergeant]]s [[Avery Junior Johnson|Avery Johnson]] and [[Nolan Byrne]] as well as their militia squads' marksmen, [[Critchley]] and [[Wallace A. Jenkins|Jenkins]] by [[Lieutenant Commander]] [[Jilan al-Cygni]] for use during the [[First Battle of Harvest|Harvest event]] during the year [[2525]]. This was the first weapon to be used against the [[Covenant]] and caused the first alien casualty in the [[Human-Covenant War]]. The battle rifle was used extensively in the following battle to protect Harvest's citizens.

==Trivia==
*The prototype resembles the [[BR55HB battle rifle|BR55 Heavy Barrel Service Rifle]] much more than the standard BR55 model in the cover of ''Halo: Contact Harvest''.
*When first assessed by Avery Johnson, he observed that the weapon had a 60 round magazine. However, the ''Contact Harvest'' cover shows the ammo count as the standard 36. Johnson may have already fired off a few shots, or this could be an error on the part of the cover artist as this is the magazine count portrayed for a battle rifle in the games.
