In [[2558]], Vel attempted to write an interspecies love poem, the subject of which was [[Spartan-IV|Spartan Commander]] [[Sarah Palmer]]. He noticed her while she was waiting in [[Thel 'Vadam|the]] [[Arbiter]]'s camp in [[Nuusra]], and was apparently captivated. Vel fell in love with Sarah Palmer when she arrived at the Arbiter's camp. He even wrote a poem that he intended to give to her before an Unggoy discovered him reciting his poem. Embarrassed, Vel threatened to dismember the Unggoy instead.{{Ref/Reuse|poem}}
