:Note: this glitch only works on single player
The Unlimited Energy Sword exploit is a weapon-related glitch in Halo 2 and Halo 3<nowiki/>'s Campaign. The glitch only works on single-player Campaign; Co-op will not work.
Summary
Walkthrough
Go onto a two part level. Then on the first part, grab a sword and use it until it is empty. Instead of switching it out, keep it and use another weapon. Then, after the second part of the level starts, you will still have the handle. Even though you get the message saying "out of ammo", the game will mistake it for a sword and this glitched sword will have unlimited ammo.
All a player has to do is finish the first of any two connected levels with an empty Energy Sword and any other weapon. During the second level, the Energy Sword will still be empty and will appear to have no blade, but the player will be able to attack with it.

Note that when finishing the first of the two connected levels, the player's other weapon must have ammo; if the player finishes with two empty weapons, they will start the next level with default weapons. Also note that if a player switches the Energy Sword for another weapon, they will not be able to pick the sword back up.
Another way is to simply hit the melee button instead of the "fire" button.

Levels this glitch works on
Levels it works on
Halo 2 (Still works on the MCC)
*Outskirts/Metropolis
*The Arbiter/The Oracle
*Delta Halo/Regret
*Sacred Icon/Quarantine Zone
*Uprising/The Great Journey
Halo 3
*The Storm/Floodgate

Does not work on the MCC edition anymore because 343 fixed it by not spawning any swords in the mission before by kiling the Arbiter as he did in the original Bungie games. On the Xbox360 disc you can still kill the Arbiter and obtain a nearly empty sword and empty it before destroying the AA-Gun.
*Outskirts/Metropolis
*The Covenant/Cortana
*Arbiter/Oracle
*Delta Halo/Regret
*Sacred Icon/Quarantine Zone
*Uprising/Great Journey

Does work on the MCC edition partly because 343 fixed it at the beginning. You can get a Sword in the mission before but you will auto equip your second weapon on arrival after the cutscene and the sword despawns because its empty. So you start with only one weapon If you try this. But you can get the unlimited sword after rescuing Cortana by having an empty sword in your hand and a carabine as secondary and then breaking her free and take her.
This glitch can also work on the last 4 levels.
*Cortana/Halo

Works both with disc and MCC by finishing the level before with an empty sword in your hand and a carabine as secondary.
NO other weapons are able to use this glitch.

Trivia
*When wielding an empty Energy Sword while using Active Camo, the sword's two blades can be seen.
*When the player switches the "Unlimited Energy Sword" on, the hilt will flash.
*This glitch will not work for Gravemind and High Charity, even if you hold onto an Energy Sword.
*If the player gets in a Warthog passenger seat and equips the sword, the blades will be visible.
