Shortly after John-117 arrived at Cairo Station, the [[Master Gunnery Sergeant (rank)|Master Gunnery Sergeant]] fitted him with the Mark VI armor that [[Maria-062]] had [[Armor Testing|tested earlier]]. The Master Gunnery Sergeant also briefed the Master Chief on the [[Energy shielding|shields]] of the new armor. The Sergeant was initially annoyed with how much damage the Chief's old [[MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor/Mark V|Mark V armor]] had taken, but then decided it was all obsolete anyway. He was also curious about how Sergeant Major [[Avery Junior Johnson|Avery Johnson]] managed to survive the [[Battle of Installation 04]], but Johnson told him it was "classified". As a result, the Gunnery Sergeant replied that Johnson could forget the adjustments to his [[A2 scope]] he had asked the Gunnery Sergeant to make.

Later, he was killed when [[Covenant Empire|Covenant]] forces [[Battle of Earth|invaded]] the station. Two [[Sangheili]] entered his armory and fired upon him, and he returned fire with a shotgun.  John-117, on his way to find the Covenant bomb, entered the armory just in time to see the Sergeant killed by plasma fire. Though unable to save the Master Gunnery Sergeant, John-117 swiftly avenged his death, picked up the Sergeant's fallen shotgun, and continued on his way.
