| Wearing a battle harness that hold weapon mounts on the back, Unggoy Mules carry weapons into battle, allowing those in command to flexibly adjust their weapons without returning to an armory or requesting a supply drop, which could reveal their location. As such, most Mules tend to remain in the vicinity of their designated commander, not only to provide easy access to the equipment on their backs, but also for their own personal protection. That being said, Unggoy selected to be Mules must be capable of effectively engaging enemies to protect their cargo.{{Ref/Reuse|enc22}}

| The rate of Unggoy Mule is a novel creation of the Banished, with no equivalent from the [[Covenant]] [[Covenant military|military]] organisation. The Banished saw the advantage of using an Unggoy's strong, broad frame and their natural ability to navigate difficult terrain, even while encumbered. Unggoy Mules were greatly valued during the Banished's long expeditions on [[Installation 00]], where its perilous terrain made traditional methods of rearmaments virtually impossible.{{Ref/Reuse|enc22}} Unggoy Mules were also deployed to [[Installation 07]] during the [[Battle for Zeta Halo]]; by [[2560#May|May 2560]], many Unggoy Mules have scavenged and appropriated [[UNSC]] weapons.{{Ref/Reuse|InsideOct}}{{Ref/Game|Id=gameplay|HI|Unggoy mule in-game enemy}}
