The Great Banshee Switch is a trick performed in Halo gameplay using two airborne Banshees. It involves players switching their respective vehicles in mid-air.
The Great Banshee Switch is a trick in the Halo games. It involves players switching their respective Banshees in mid-air.

Instructions
The stunt requires great skill, timing, and sometimes just pure luck. First, both players must be flying in the same direction, and at the same speed. The first player must position his Banshee directly above the second, and just a few centimeters forward. At this point, the Banshees should be touching. Now, both players must get out at the same time, and when they are close enough, they must press X to get in the other player's Banshee. If done correctly, you will switch Banshees in mid-air.
This stunt requires great skill, faultless timing, and sometimes just pure luck. It also requires the cooperation of two players (Player A, Player B).

To start the trick, both players must be flying in the same direction at the same speed. Person A must position his Banshee directly above Person Bs Banshee, and just a few feet farther forward; the Banshees should be touching. Both players must then dismount their vehicles at the same time; when a player finds themselves sufficiently close to the other's Banshee, they should hold X (or RB in Halo 3) to enter the craft. If the maneuver is executed properly, the duo will have switched Banshees in mid-air.
This technique can be used if your Banshee is about to be hijacked. Just barrel-roll upwards as you are about to be kicked out and you will be flung upwards. You may then fall down on the Banshee and hold 'X' to re-board.  A way to counteract this is, when you see them flip upwards, then immediately boost when you get inside, then the banshee will be out of the way before they can re-board it.

Uses
This trick is also useful for players in campaign. When you are in an fight with other Banshees, simply fly over an enemy's Banshee, press X, try to fall onto the enemy's Banshee, and then board it. This, however, is the most difficult method, as the enemy will ofter turn and flip a lot as to get in position to shoot you.
A variation of this technique is useful when avoiding skyjacking. A player who is about to be boarded should barrel-roll upwards as they are about to be kicked out; their momentum will cause them to launch upwards when they are forcibly removed from the vehicle. The victim may then fall back down onto their Banshee; as they fall, they should hold the appropriate button to reclaim their Banshee. This is, however, easily countered; the attacker can simply boost once they gain control of the vehicle, causing the victim to fall to the ground (or their death) rather than landing on the Banshee.

Another variation may be practiced in Campaign. A player who finds themselves in a dogfight with a Banshee can execute the trick to hijack their opponent. It is difficult, however, to position a Banshee over an enemy Banshee, as the enemy Banshee will often flip and turn repeatedly in an attempt to target the would-be boarder. Landing on the target Banshee is difficult for the same reason.
Other Banshee Tricks
With practice and a lot of patience you can master these other Banshee Tricks. Some exploit the glitches in Halo while others are just pure skill:

Related Tricks
*Banshee Juggling:
Banshee Juggling
This trick requires 2 players and one Banshee. Have Player 1 enter the Banshee. Then Player 1 will fly low over Player 2. Player 2 will hijack the Banshee. A third of the way through the boarding animation Player 1 will perform a backflip. This will cause him to fly up above the Banshee. When Player 1 Comes back down have him board the Banshee. A third of the way through the boarding animation Player 1 will perform a backflip. Continue this cycle for as long as you can.
Banshee Juggling is another trick that is similar in nature to The Great Banshee Switch. It requires two players (Person A and Person B) and one Banshee.

Person A should enter the Banshee and fly low over Person B. Person B should hijack the Banshee. A third of the way through the boarding animation, Person A should perform a backflip with the aircraft; this will cause A to be launched above the Banshee when they are ejected from it. Person A should, as they fall, re-board the Banshee. Person B should react as Person A had previously, performing a backflip when Person A gets a third of the way through the boarding animation. Assuming that both players are skilled enough, they may repeat the cycle endlessly.
*While playing Capture The Flag or similiar game have the team member with the "flag" jump onto the Banshee and then race to the objective! This can lead to some very quick flag or bomb scores.

Banshee Destruction
*If you ever get jacked while in the Banshee and you are near a wall, you can actually splatter the hijacker off by rolling sideways into the wall. The cool thing about this is that after you splatter the guy, the Banshee's hatch stays open.
When flying the Banshee in Halo 3, hold A and go forward. If done right, the Banshee will drop quickly straight down, belly-first. If a Banshee lands belly-first, then it will explode (and kill nearby enemies, if applicable), but the driver will sustain no damage. This is useful when being targeted with a Missile Pod, or in cases where the short-term benefit of a surprise attack may be worth more than the long-term benefit of a Banshee. Note, this is only possible when the Banshee has suffered an extreme amount of damage.

*Another anti-hijacking trick, if you are boarded, exit the Banshee just before your opponent would usually throw you out, and then hold 'X' really soon after. This makes it so that when your opponent hops into the vehicle in the appropriate part of the boarding animation, you will board your recently stolen vehicle before they have a chance to move, taking it back and allowing you to fly away. This will also catch them off guard so that they won't repeat the trick on you. Practice this to get the timing down, even though it doesn't need to be too exact.
