*'''Strong Keep''' Actually, the text reads "Two exceptions to this patrol pattern were a pair of light cruisers hovering over Menachite Mountain". The text can be found on page 167 (beginning of chapter 18) in [[Halo: First Strike]]. Prior to this, it mentions heavy cruisers ("There were a total of thirteen heavy cruisers and three carriers moving three hundred kilometers above the surface of the planet." also page 167 [[Halo: First Strike]]) thus differentiating the light cruiser from the CAR-class heavy cruiser. -- [[User:Rotaretilbo|Rotaretilbo]] 16:24, 5 December 2006
**So anyway...I don't hear anyone arguing, and the text I posted is rather clear, so I'm going to remove the fact or fiction from the article. I'll leave the discussion intact, and if you think I made the wrong decision, just put it back.--[[User:Rotaretilbo|Rotaretilbo]] 16:29, 6 December 2006
*'''STRONG KEEP''' - The ''Covenant Light Cruiser'' was actually mentioned ''twice'' that I know of so far. The one mentioned so far, and again on FS p.&nbsp;205, near the bottom, and gives a short discription, too. --[[User:Uneven elephant|Uneven elephant]] 19:39, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

== Light Cruiser role ==
{{Quote|The ''[[Halo Encyclopedia (2009 edition)]]'' uses an image of a {{Pattern|Ket|battlecruiser}} in its entry for the Covenant Light Cruiser. While this is most likely an error, it's possible that the Light Cruiser is merely a scaled down version of the ''Ket''-pattern.|Anonymous IP 24.147.62.26}}
The term "light cruiser" is a shortening of "light armoured cruiser" - the "light" doesn't refer to actual size at all, but rather signifies that the ship simply has less armour and smaller calibre cannons, and in exchange benefits from superior speed and manoeuvrability. Its entirely possible, therefore, for a cruiser, battlecruiser and heavy cruiser to all share the same basic external hull, but still retain dramatically different combat roles. -- '''[[Halopedia:Administrators|<font color=indigo>Administrator</font>]] [[User:Specops306|<font color=indigo>Specops306</font>]]''' - '''''<u>[[User Talk:Specops306|<font color=blue>Qur'a 'Morhek</font>]]</u>''''' 08:51, December 11, 2009 (UTC)
==Battle of Chi Ceti==
This battle, as depicted in TFoR, indicates the ship that attacked the UNSC Frigate ''Commonwealth'' was but a third its size. We know the light cruiser to be 300 meters, and as far as we know, the frigate is 478 meters (last I read). This puts the ''Unrelenting'' at approximately two thirds the size of the ''Commonwealth''. Is this just a mishap in the novel perhaps? This information seemingly comes from the Halo Encyclopeda, so I trust it to be right. [[User talk:Quakeomaniac|Quakeomaniac]] 04:41, January 9, 2010 (UTC)

:I'll go with it then, a light cruiser is a good description for the vessel anyway. [[User talk:Quakeomaniac|Quakeomaniac]] 04:52, January 9, 2010 (UTC)
::I know. One of the most obvious errors was when it contradicted itself on the same damn page (Mgalekgolo section). Seriously it seems the editor didn't even notice that less than 6 inches away the book gave contradicting information. As some one else stated, a light, heavy, and stock cruiser (or any ship type for that matter) isn't determined by size, but by the amount of armor and weaponry it has or sacrifices for greater mobility.--[[User talk:Zervziel|Zervziel]] 03:05, January 11, 2010 (UTC)

== Size ==
Why is this ship so small, its tiny compared to almost any other ship, was there any reason given for this. --[[Special:Contributions/216.107.172.150|216.107.172.150]] 17:45, 19 April 2013 (EDT)
Well there is no outright proof stating that the H4 ships are CRS. 343 has never outright stated it, so they could actually be ''Ket'' and this wiki got it wrong. Based on the scale compared to the ship the wiki believes to be a ''Ket'' (I disagree) seen in the Spartan Ops cutscenes, it would make this ship half the size of a Corvette meaning it simply could never be a Cruiser due to being far to small. Making it too small to be a CRS which is a cruiser, not frigate or corvette. These ships are clearly identified ingame as Cruisers (light cruiser is never mentioned). Also remember the term light cruiser doesn't mean smaller, but weaker armored than battlecruiser so it would make no sense for them to be drastically smaller. [[Special:Contributions/95.145.190.104|95.145.190.104]] 20:44, 25 April 2013 (EDT)
:The ''CRS''-class cruiser's size was first established in ''First Strike''. Its size was reiterated (and the class was named) in ''The Essential Visual Guide''. Based on the scale used for all entities in the game, the ''Halo 4'' cruiser is 300 meters long, which matches the ''CRS''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s canonical length; coupled with the ''EVG'''s statement that all Covenant cruisers look more-or-less the same, it stands to reason that the cruisers in the game are ''CRS''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s. 343 Industries endorsed Stephen Loftus' scale images, ([http://www.halowaypoint.com/zh-hant/universe/detail/04050c03-fc6a-44c8-8b77-468802ae62c9/stephen-loftus-scaled-halo which they posted on ''Waypoint'']), and they had no complaint about the ship's designation. As for why the ships are never called "light cruisers" in ''Halo 4'', it's shorthand; in combat, it would be more natural for someone to yell, ''"Cruisers comin' in!"'' than to say, ''"''CRS''-class light cruisers on approach."'' --[[User:Braidenvl|Courage never dies.]] ([[User talk:Braidenvl|talk]]) 22:02, 25 April 2013 (EDT)
It's crazy enough that they once again cut corners by recycling the design of the ''Ket'' for the CRS, but how can this thing be so much smaller than a corvette? I mean was the corvette not the smallest thing in the fleet? You traverse the majority of the vessel in Halo: Reach and if the CRS is really that small, it's smaller than even a standard Paris-class heavy frigate. By Covenant standards, this is not a practically-sized ship to have in their armada that meets capital-class ship.[[User:262VigilantGuardian|262VigilantGuardian]] ([[User talk:262VigilantGuardian|talk]]) 02:16, 18 February 2014 (EST)
:[http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/matrix-morpheus What if I told you]...it's probably pretty cheap to build or buy.[[User:Sith Venator|<span style="color:green">Sith-venator Wavingstrider</span>]] [[File:Fett helmet.jpg|20px]] ([[User talk:Sith Venator|<span style="color:blue">Commlink</span>]]) 02:28, 18 February 2014 (EST)
I'm sorry, it's been years since I saw The Matrix. Still, this ship does not seem a practical size for the Covenant armada. It would barely be a match for a standard frigate and probably can't carry any really significant cargo or vehicles. The label of light cruiser is barely appropriate for a vessel of this size, I've never heard of a cruiser-class ship this small. This vessel is a bit of a joke compared to its vastly larger cousin.[[User:262VigilantGuardian|262VigilantGuardian]] ([[User talk:262VigilantGuardian|talk]]) 02:42, 18 February 2014 (EST)
:Frankly, I think even the UNSC have to look at each other and scratch their heads when they take a tally of Covenant ship classes. You have destroyers as big as cruisers, cruisers as big as carriers, battleships as big as cruisers, and cruisers smaller than corvettes. In my own mind, the UNSC probably has no real idea what function the ships fill when first encountered, and make a best guess based on appearance or function, and then when it turns out that they're way off the name's stuck. Remember, the Covenant probably don't use the same ship classifications humanity does, and the UNSC's applying type-analogues to ships never intended for those roles. Plus, the UNSC probably isn't the only one who has been introducing new ships into service to replace older ones, which may be throwing the UNSC off. We know that the Covenant remnant quite frequently restore outdated models of weapon or vehicle because newer tech isn't available. -- [[User:Morhek|'''<font color=indigo>Qura 'Morhek</font>''']] [[halofanon:user:Specops306|<u>''<font color=blue>The Autocrat</font>''</u>]] [[User talk:Specops306|<u>''<font color=purple>of Morheka</font>''</u>]] 03:54, 18 February 2014 (EST)
::No need to be sorry, just wanted to make sure you got the reference. :D As members of Halopedia getting references is like half our job. Per the discussion I think Morhek makes a fair point on the whole classification thing. Given that the CRS looks like the baby brother of the [[Ket-pattern battlecruiser|CCS]] and [[Maugen-pattern armored cruiser|RCS]]. I can see some guy at ONI going, "Yeah, that'll be a cruiser because it looks exactly the same as that other ship....Which I already said was a cruiser. Now I better go catalog that [[Type-51 Covenant Carbine|Covenant Carbine]]. Nah I'll do it [[2551|later]]."
::[[Jul 'Mdama]]'s [[Covenant remnant]] (or as me and [[User:Snore|Snore]] like to call them, the JMC!) no doubt uses them because, as I mentioned, of their abundance and cheap price (Even if they do get [[Catherine/Shootout in Valhalla|owned]] by one [[Strident-class heavy frigate]].). So far we've only seen his Navy have maybe three or four [[CAS-class assault carrier]]s so Jul is grabbing anything and everything he can use. Especially considering it seems that as late as [[2558]] [[Arbiter]] [[Thel 'Vadam]]'s [[Covenant separatists|forces]] have several CAS-class assault carriers and {{Pattern|Sinaris|heavy destroyer}}s.[[User:Sith Venator|<span style="color:green">Sith-venator Wavingstrider</span>]] [[File:Fett helmet.jpg|20px]] ([[User talk:Sith Venator|<span style="color:blue">Commlink</span>]]) 07:01, 18 February 2014 (EST)
The initial error is a reference to a Covenant cruiser in First Strike at 300m in length. That's where the issue began. A corvette should be the smallest capital ship and a cruiser should be more substantial, but those are human designations, not Covenant ones. The Covenant wouldn't call their own ships cruisers and frigates. Those would be English translations of humans' evaluation and classification of Covenant ships. -[[User:ScaleMaster117|ScaleMaster117]] ([[User talk:ScaleMaster117|talk]]) 08:02, 18 February 2014 (EST)
