| I imagine in the future, we will want to explain the layout of the mine, its different facets and such. I'm not quite sure how to do so effectively, but it seems like a good idea to make the article more complete. Or if that would stretch it out too much, maybe as a separate article. --Dragonclaws(talk) 07:39, 2 March 2009 (UTC) | | I imagine in the future, we will want to explain the layout of the mine, its different facets and such. | I may be able to add to the layout. The 3D mesh gives designations to some of the stations parts. I'll need to look it up. ScaleMaster117 (talk) 10:53, 10 June 2013 (EDT)

| :Installation 04 is frequently referred to as "Alpha Halo", just as Installation 05 is referred to as "Delta Halo", though it is unknown why the Monitor would refer to his own Installation using human nomenclature. Technically, Installation 01 should be "Installation Alpha", or "Alpha Halo", and Installation 04 be "Installation Delta", or "Delta Halo", but that's not how Bungie did it so... —Kouger 16:23, 5 March 2009 (UTC) | | :Installation 04 is frequently referred to as "Alpha Halo", just as Installation 05 is referred to as "Delta Halo", though it is unknown why the Monitor would refer to his own Installation using human nomenclature. | ::The Installations have given numbers as designated by the Forerunners and retained by the Monitors. Installation 04 is the fourth of the second generation of Halo Installations, and just happened to be the first encountered upon by the UNSC. Because of this, and despite it's numerical designation, it is "Alpha Halo." I assume Delta was used next because in the phonetic alphabet, its the next Greek Letter (Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta...)Ocean Soul (talk) 14:05, 12 January 2013 (EST)

| :::It was always my interpretation that the Forerunner designations were Installation 01, 02, 03, 04, etc. So Guilty Spark refers to his as Installation 04. The Covenant found out about the rings' existence in their history and (through the deleted scene in Halo 2) even had a map made out where they should be located in the galaxy. The Covenant probably named the first ring they came across (or may have named them all and this was still the first) and humans translated their language for first as "Alpha". They may have designated the Forerunner's 5th ring as their 4th so Installation 05 became Delta Halo. | == Cable? ==
| |
|
| |
| Why would the gas mine be suspended by an extremely long cable, given the advanced technology of the forerunners, don't you think that it would be equipped with its own anti-grav generators to keep it hovering in place? I know its not a big deal, I was just curious is all, share your thoughts please. -SuavestImp508 21:39, January 12, 2013 (UTC)

| :This was explained by 343 Guilty Spark during the boss fight. Flood samples were in the Gas Mine, and cutting the cable was a last-resort in case they escaped, so that they'd all be destroyed upon falling down the planet. | ::Speaking of which, if you listen to Guilty Spark long enough, he refers to the large array the Gas Mine is hanging from as the "High Altitude Suspension Grid"...I'm surprised not to find a single mention of it on Halopedia. | :::Indeed. I've had the following quote in store for some time: "The tether connecting the mine to the high-altitude suspension grid was the primary failsafe. I'm glad that someone was aware of the necessary protocols and severed the tether locally." I don't remember where I found it, and Google no longer returns any hits for the full quote ("high altitude suspension grid" does bring up several, mostly Halo forum discussions). It's curious because it represents a strange anomaly in our transcript of the level in question, in which the suspension grid is absent: "The tether on top of this mine was designed as the primary fail safe in case an outbreak took place." In light of this, I have a feeling the transcript might have other mistakes as well. --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 14:08, 20 June 2013 (EDT)
