The visual 'beam' like look of Infinity's main weapons are simply that, a visual effect that looks cool. In canon, they're MAC rounds because nothing else makes sense. If later information is released that they are infact some sort of laser or projector weapon, we can always chance it. This isn't the first time canon information has been misrepresented in visuals.
