The top SMG picture is from the Art of Halo book. The gun is an early render of the SMG's original mag design: with a clear perspex one instead of stamped metal. The idea was being able to see how many cases were still in the mag would give the user another way to gauge ammo. Another is because of the use of clear mags in today's SMGS, like the FN P90.
