Some believe that this is the gun under the Pelicans nose in Halo 2. they look nothing alike! they perform simalerly but all that means is they're both medium machine guns with a relatively low rate of fire.Maiar 07:18, 25 January 2009 (UTC) | Some believe that this is the gun under the Pelicans nose in Halo 2. they look nothing alike! they perform simalerly but all that means is they're both medium machine guns with a relatively low rate of fire.Maiar 07:18, 25 January 2009 (UTC) | ||
:Same rate of fire and damage, but different skins. I thought it looked similar to the AIE-486H chaingun of Halo 3. --CoH|Councillor]] SpecopsUserWiki:Specops306|306]] - Qur'a 'Morhek 08:26, 25 January 2009 (UTC) | :Same rate of fire and damage, but different skins. Many machine guns are classified based on what kind of mountings that they are on. for example. the modern M240 would be classed as an Light Machine Gun if it were mounted on a bipod, and as a GP/Medium Machine gun if on a Tripod. Also, many modern HMGs were classified as such by their bulkiness and weight, even though they'd be using the 7.62mm NATO round. --WhellerNG 01:40, September 1, 2010 (UTC) | Many machine guns are classified based on what kind of mountings that they are on. for example. the modern M240 would be classed as an Light Machine Gun if it were mounted on a bipod, and as a GP/Medium Machine gun if on a Tripod. :I was gonna say- the article says it's used as a SAW, but I'm not sure that's true. It's always seen on a pintle/turret or with a tripod, which are characteristics you would associated with a GPMG, and only present in a relatively small number of cases. I suppose any weapon in a squad automatic weapon if it's organic to a rifle squad, but I don't think these are. Halo never attempts to show organization in-game, and I actually think that's okay since the units often feel like ad-hoc creations made during the chaos of massive battles. But I just don't see much evidence that it's a SAW, at least in any official capacity. It just seems more akin to a 240 than a 249, and 240 variants are rarely used as SAWs (although, I will say that 247 uses the same ammo as the standard service rifle, which the 240 doesn't, at least not for US troops) | :I was gonna say- the article says it's used as a SAW, but I'm not sure that's true.
