Anriel has it correct, the bodies are still around after the firing, but only plants with a neural system would be affected.  A fern would be completely untouched.  And Sor, what would a now dumb Flood use all that brainless biomass for?  Without brain matter, without a host's neurology, the Flood are just highly dangerous dumb beasts.
