| |
| So first, let's start with the edits I've made.
| |
|
| |
| * There are "unofficial" sources that can explain every single change 343i made in Flood, and I even understand the exact technical details, but I don't feel comfortable pointing them out myself. For now, here are the legitimate ways we can deduce most of the facts I've provided.
| |
| ** We know that the Flood character model was compatible with weapons because when a Flood player is spawning, for a single frame they'll use the "holding an Assault Rifle" animation; they obviously have the animation. Since we know that the Flood used the same rig as Spartans, we also know that they were capable of sprinting, and the sprint toggle was a standard player trait. 343i just never added it to the menus, so we could never enable it for Flood or disable it for anyone else.
| |
| ** The reason Forced Color isn't available anymore is because it was split into two options (primary and secondary) and changed from an enum (list of options) to an actual color value. 343i could shove literally any color they wanted into it. However, they didn't have time to build a color picker into the UI, so they had to take the options out of the menu entirely. We can deduce all this because 343i created some Saint Patrick's Day game variants that used Forced Colors that have never been available before -- and different colors for the primary and secondary armor parts.
| |
| ** The Flood did not use a special Thruster Pack as 343i stated. They had the exact same Thruster Pack as survivors, but Thruster Pack's speed modifier is multiplicative. You raise the Flood's base movement speed, you raise their thrust speed. Feel free to verify that yourself.
| |
| * This is editorializing so I omitted it form the article, but the removal of game options from Halo 4 as a whole and Flood specifically was devastating to Custom Games. A great many mini-games were based on Infection -- Fat Kid, Ice Cream Man, Duck Hunt, Speed Halo, Termites, and more -- and every last one of these was affected in some way when Flood's settings were gutted. Gametype articles have quite a bit of informal information on Custom Games, but I'm not sure if that's desired, so I'll leave this in the talk page for everyone else to decide how to handle.

| |
| Finally: we should probably merge this article into Infection. Flood is literally just an Infection reskin with the options gutted, and neither of those changes makes it a totally different gametype. I don't come here regularly, so I'm not going to start any merge process or vote or whatever myself. DavidJCobb (talk) 23:59, 18 October 2015 (EDT)
