:They're UAVs. They're contiuosly referred to as "Drones" in the game, also stated in the Art fo Halo 3. But they are remote-controlled by actual people. So that's probably what Dutch's referring to.--Jugus 22:26, September 15, 2009 (UTC)

:It appears in a Halo 3 multiplayer map and in Halo 3: ODST. So, no, it shouldn't be under "Deleted Content" any longer. --TDSpiral94 22:15, September 20, 2009 (UTC)

Is this a UAV or a UCAV? As I understand it, they are two radically different types of craft, sharing only the fact that they are unmanned. -- Administrator Specops306 - Qur'a 'Morhek Honour Light Your Way! 01:50, September 19, 2009 (UTC)

It's called the Drone Fighter in Halo 3 ODST. That's the only name official "canon" name that has been given to it. I've renamed the page, lol. Buck calls them "drones" in game, and when you inspect its optics, it says "Hold RB to inspect Drone Fighter optics. Baryon15 11:28, September 23, 2009 (UTC)

Also, it is never confirmed that they are still unmanned, during the concept it was, but no longer, because of Dutch's remark.

:The fact that they're drones would be a pretty big hint. As per Jugus, too many sources refer to them as such. Dutch may have been referring to their Carrier-based remote pilots. -- Administrator Specops306 - Qur'a 'Morhek Honour Light Your Way! 12:41, September 23, 2009 (UTC)

Name on official source that names them F99s or Wombats. The only time they appear in Halo canon is in Halo 3: ODST, and they are referred as Drone Fighters. Baryon15 20:55, September 24, 2009 (UTC)

I fixed the redirect from F99 Wombat to here, it was redirecting to Drone Fighter, which redirects here, which I'm sure most of you know doesn't exactly work.Kahn Iceay 21:52, September 26, 2009 (UTC)

The dimensions match most small fighter jets like the F-16 and the F-20 and of course those are smaller then a Pellican so I'm pretty sure these would be around the size of a present day jet fighterDerekproxy

While I know that the Halo Encyclopedia is chock full of a few misspellings, as well as a few items forgotten, and I do hope the updated Halo Encyclopedia has it plus everything else forgotten, but I at least expected the Halo: The Essential Visual Guide to have an entry on this vehicle, but it didn't. I'd like to know more than what we have here, but there isn't any further information. Why is this? Is it because the F99 UCAV doesn't play a very big role in Halo 3: ODST? And, what are its primary roles? Is it ever used by anyone, if not by the player? And I'd also to like to know, that since it is called a UCAV, it must have weapons. If so, what kind of weapons? Machine guns and missiles? Why is there so little information regarding these important questions? Does an employee from Bungie or 343i have any information to offer? :I agree. No source has stated that the drone is a UCAV, aside from "Hold RB to inspect Drone Fighter optics," which, of course, is a gameplay convention. It seems to be a normal, unarmed UAV. On a similar note, why is the drone referred to as the F99? That designation comes from concept art, but the drone has not been referred to as such in any canon source. --Courage never dies. 19:33, 26 September 2011 (EDT)

::It seems to me it has never been referred to as such in any canon reference source, not in any book or game, aside from the aforementioned quote, which I believe it to be canon, and as well being as close to confirmation of it being a UCAV. I mean, UAV does not mention combat in its name-acronym, but UCAV does suggest a (drone) fighter. It's the only logical explanation, at least to me it is. Shouldn't this page be named F99 Wombat Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle? Right now that's what the infobox has as the full name but the page is titled F-99 Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle and uses that term in the text body.--Ender the Xenocide 08:47, 1 December 2011 (EST)
:UPDATE: The Halo 4: The Essential Visual Guide officially refers to this as the F99 Wombat UCAV drone, on page 72 of the H-295 FOM Target Designator. Therefore, it must be changed, as it is, as I said, officially been named as such. I tried to move it back to F99 Wombat, but it wouldn't let me. Could somebody please take care of this? --Xamikaze330 [Transmission|Commencing] 19:21, 16 September 2013 (EDT)Xamikaze330

Just saying don't invent names that aren't referenced. 343i uses "drone", so that's all that should be referenced. The initialism "UCAV" is present-day terminology which may not be in the tech manuals of the UNSC. As soon as 343i uses "UCAV", then we'll edit it in. :) -ScaleMaster117 (talk) 20:51, 16 September 2013 (EDT)
:In H4TEVG, on page 72, it explicitly mentions the "F99 Wombat", on the Target Designator page. They are one and the same. --Xamikaze330 [Transmission|Commencing] 21:26, 16 September 2013 (EDT)Xamikaze330
:I guess I'm more conservative about what an employee says in a casual interview that's captioned in an art book than what is explicit in the fiction. -ScaleMaster117 (talk) 22:12, 16 September 2013 (EDT)
::That, and the "UCAV" part is merely a description of what the craft is, just as one might say "D77-TC Pelican dropship" or "B-65 Shortsword bomber". Yet we leave the descriptions out in article titles both because of brevity and because they're not part of the proper name. "F99 Wombat" is neatly concise and follows our established titling standard on aircraft. --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 10:52, 17 September 2013 (EDT)
