== Only Ranger Armor? ==

I've noticed that not all of the ''Seek and Destroy'' medals I've been getting on B.net are for the gold-armored Rangers. In fact, the only gold-armored Rangers I've seen were on the Corvette's bridge. One I thing I have noticed though are special silver armored Elites with random armor permutations. The most obvious ones are on Sword Base: the first is to the left of the garage where you fight Hunters (Heroic and Legendary); the second is inside, on the floor below where the General spawns (Easy and Normal). I've seen these Elites have Ultra, Field Marshall, Zealot, and Ranger armor, but they've all had pure silver armor and dual Plasma Rifles. More importantly, they have all counted as BOB kills. Has anyone else noticed this? :::They do exist in Field Marshall form. I've ran into a white one at the beginning of Sword Base when you fight through the courtyard area. I got it on, you guessed it, Legendary, and with the Thunderstorm skull on. Perhaps bungie put up a post or something about these BOBs

If you know you've killed a BOB, on Bungie.net, if you look your kills by enemy, you'll see they're listed as "Elite Rangers" with their classification underneath saying "BOB". [[User talk:KRZYBCH|KRZYBCH]] 15:39, October 3, 2010 (UTC)

After a lot of research, I have found that the white BOBs on ONI: Sword Base always duel wield plasma rifles, are immune to assassinations, and wear minor, officer, ranger (only seen once), spec ops (rare), Ultra (rare) general (rare), zealot, and field marshall (rare), all on normal and all wearing white.--[[User talk:TK 234|One  who survived]] 20:19, 20 December 2010 (EST)

I believe that there are 21 BOBs, just a theory as many others. I think this becasue i have seen 18 already:

Nightfall: 3

Tip of the Spear: 2 (i believe there is one more)

Long Night of Solace: 3

Exodus: No elites

New Alexandría: 0

The Package: 2 (i believe there is one more)

The Pillar of Autunm: 2 (i believe there is one more)

Lone Wolfe: 1

TOTAL: 21

So, the reason i believe there are at least 21 is Bungie, they love 7: 21/3=7

You know you might be right but I think that you may be mistakened. Once at the beginning of the level nightfall I killed a golden armored ranger but I didn't get that medal so there is a chance that there are normal golden rangers so if you do do this wild BOB hunt, be sure to make sure you get that seek and destroy medalfor each one.[[User talk:Jamesgg521|Jamesgg521]] 22:03, 19 November 2010 (EST)

The problem is that i do not have Xbox Live yet, so i cannot check the medal, and now, i have a new list since now i have 27 different spawn locations:

Winter Contingency: 7 (Interesting number, eh?) (3 on the first settlement, 2 on the other settlemets each)

ONI: Sword Base: 2 (Why havent anybody added images of these BOBs with Ranger armor?)

Nightfall: 3 (Possibly 4) (I played and didnt spawned any, confirmed by Theater mode)

I have killed all of them on legendary, the one on lone wolf was hard, but i found how to do it, just hide on the boxes for more than 1 hour, the kill a grunt, 4 generals will spawn, if you play with Tilt it is easier, kill the 4 generals and the BOB will come to you before other enemies. It was confirmed yesterday with the Golden Oportunity that the "Banshee BOB" at the end of The Package is not a BOB, but all supposed BOB banshees on Exodus and New Alezandria are BOBs.

I will erase it soon if nobody can get it to spawn. I have tried hundreds of times, and I only get the 4 that have been confirmed.

I took a little time to look into the case of the missing Gold Ranger Elite. It's been a while since I've looked at these scripts. At first I thought there was (as you suggest in your post) a bug that prevented Bob from spawning 25% of the time. At the top of the script I noticed the random value assigned to the spawn variable was set to a value ranging between 1-4. The script was then evaluating this variable but there was were only three values it was checking for: 1-3. This confused me at first but then someone (thanks Dom!) pointed out that the last function checks for a value greater than or equal to 3. So basically the likelihood that Bob will spawn in the final area is 50% and the other two are 25% each. Also, it should be noted that the three Bobs that spawn in your lower screenshot are all controlled by the same spawning function but this particular Bob squad (even a single AI is referred to as a squad) has three starting locations that the engine randomly chooses from.

In any case, it appears that the script is working as designed and I don't see any reason why Bob wouldn't be spawning in.

All of that being said, it would appear that you have not identified one of the locations of Bob in this mission. According to the scripts and the object placements in the level editor, there is one more place that he should be spawning. On the other hand, with the amount of time you've put into the game, I can't believe you wouldn't have seen him unless there is a bug preventing it. Ahhh, the mysteries of life.

You can find the post of Lord Zedd. This guy explored the map files searching for the BOBs.

This is what he found:

winter: 1 with 14 spawns
oni: 5 different
night: 3 different
tip: 3 different, 5 spawns (one with 3)
long: 3 different
exodus 3 different
alexandria: 1 with 4 spawns
package: 3 different
pillar: 2 different
lone: 1 spawn



WC: I suspected that there were more than 7 on Winter Contingency before he did this, but never actually prooved it. If you think its hard to notice, you can compare the spawn points of the BOBs on Legendary and any other difficulty, you will easily see the difference.

Now we have 14 on WC, but it is not worth adding it in the article, since they spawn almost in the same location.

OSB: I never suspected that there were 3 more in this mission.

No matter what I do, one of the 2 that we have seen in the past spawns. I believe these need to be triggered somehow, or just squads that have no spawn action in the level (i mean that Bungie maybe didnt add those 3 for real).

TotS: We have been searching for this BOB for now over a year. How is that we still dont see it?

The Halo Waypoint Sangheili page names an image the gold-armored BOB as "Ranger Commander". However, our article claims there are also white-armored BOBs (I'm not sure if there are) which would mean that the "BOB" enemy class encompasses different types of Ranger.
