| | A squad is a order of battle in the UNSC military, most specifically the UNMC. It is composed of two fireteams, each comprised of 2-5 men. Fireteams who are organized into a squad are usually in numbers of 4-5. The squad is often commanded by either a staff sergeant or corporal. Squads within a platoon are numbered i.e. First Sqaud, Second Squad, and so forth. Squads comprise the the smallest unit in a UNSC formation capable of performing most tasks, such as storming a enemy-held building, or engaging in combat. The squad, as stated eariler, is futher divided into fireteams, who coordinate very closley with one another to improve sqaud member-to-squad member communication. Most times in a Halo Single Player situation, The Player will lead squads of Marines into battle on various missions. |

| ==Composition==

| Squads typically are composed of twelve personnel, though this is an ideal and rarely matched in the field, leading to squad sizes ranging from eight to thirteen members. Squads can be led by a corporal, lance corporal or sergeant. Squads are typically divided into two or more fireteams, each consisting of 4-5 soldiers led by a Corporal or Lance Corporal. Likewise, three squads form a platoon, though exact composition depends on company structure. Some company organisations mix their heavy weapons personnel into each platoon, so that each platoon has one heavy weapons squad and two riflemen squads. Squads within a platoon are numbered i.e. First Squad, Second Squad, and so forth.

| UNSC Special Forces sometimes utilise much lower personnel counts in squads, as low as four - making them effectively equivalent to a fireteam. such as the ODST and Naval Special Warfare units.
