Holly-G003 was a member of the SPARTAN-III program in Team Saber, one of the leading squads in the Gamma Company of SPARTAN-IIIs stationed on Onyx at Camp Currahee.[2]

Biography[edit]

Conscription[edit]

Holly was orphaned at a young age during a Covenant attack on her home colony. When she was four years old,[1] she was conscripted into the SPARTAN-III program developed by Colonel James Ackerson, along with other orphans who had volunteered to become Spartans. She and the other SPARTAN-III candidates were trained on the planet Onyx by Senior Chief Petty Officer Mendez, survivors of Beta Company Lucy-B091 and Tom-B292, and Spartan-II Lieutenant Commander Kurt Ambrose. Holly was assigned to Team Saber under the command of fellow Spartan-III Ash-G099.

Onyx Conflict[edit]

Initial attack[edit]

On October 31, 2552, Holly and the rest of Team Saber were competing for top honors along with two other Gamma Company fireteams. During the training exercise, Team Saber moved dangerously close to Zone 67 to avoid the other teams. The team spied what they assumed at the time to be a new type of Covenant aircraft or drone, noting that it had energy shields and seemed to use anti-gravity technology. Unknown to them, it was in fact one of a group of Forerunner Sentinel, which had awoken in response to a pulse from the destroyed Installation 04. Team Saber decided to investigate and engaged the Sentinels, but upon being faced with the machines' deadly energy weaponry, Holly and the rest of the team were forced to split up and retreat.[3] Holly became cornered by a Sentinel at the edge of a cliff, but was rescued when Ash hurled a rock at the Sentinel, distracting it. The Sentinel then chased Ash into a crevasse, after which Holly and the rest of Team Saber dropped boulders on the Sentinel and destroyed it.[4]

Regrouping with UNSC forces[edit]

Holly and the rest of Team Saber decided to retreat to the base camp to retrieve live ammunition and heavy weaponry. On their way, the group met up with Commander Ambrose, Chief Mendez, and Petty Officers Tom and Lucy, and proceeded to try and evade the Sentinels that were swarming throughout the forest. Shortly afterward, Holly and the rest of the group met up with Kelly-087 and Dr. Catherine Halsey who had recently arrived on Onyx. After the Spartans successfully defeated the attacking Sentinels, Holly and the rest of the group took Dr. Halsey and Kelly to a bombed-out bunker, where Dr. Halsey explained the origin of the Sentinels and outlined a plan of action.[5]

Zone 67[edit]

Some time later, Holly and the other survivors were joined by the SPARTAN-IIs of Blue Team. After a plan was made to destroy a trio of Sentinels patrolling the area, Holly and Team Saber scouted out a tunnel to trap a pair of Sentinels in, and Dante rigged it with explosives. Kelly led the Sentinels on a chase through the tunnel, which exploded behind her and successfully destroyed the Sentinels. After the team destroyed all Sentinels in the area, they moved into an excavated Forerunner city within Zone 67. Once there, they discovered the map room of the Onyx installation, and discovered the location of the lost Team Katana. Before they proceeded to use Onyx's teleportation grid to translocate to Katana's position, they were contacted by AI Endless Summer, who urged them to launch a strike on the installation's Sentinel manufacturing facility, thus cutting off the stream of Sentinels swarming throughout the planet.[6]

After successfully shutting down the Sentinel production facility under Onyx's north polar region, Holly and the rest of the team arrived at Team Katana's holding area to find the group contained within an array of Forerunner slipspace field pods. Dr. Halsey deduced the purpose of the shield world, and also found out that Covenant forces nearby had pinpointed the location of the group and were on the way with large numbers of troops to attempt to stop them.

Death[edit]

The humans then fell back into Onyx's core room antechamber and made a stand at the entrance to the shield world. During the battle, a pair of Mgalekgolo moved to fire upon Kelly-087. Holly took the blasts from both Hunters' assault cannons, saving the older Spartan but at the cost of her own life. She was vaporized by the blast, leaving only two footprints where she had stood. Ash was visibly distraught by her death.[7] After successfully escaping into the Shield World, the surviving Spartans would hold a funeral and memorial service for their fallen companions.

Personal description[edit]

Kurt Ambrose remarked that Holly reminded him of Kelly-087 when she was younger due to her determination and liveliness. Holly was remarkably agile, and was excellent at reconnaissance roles. She had short cropped hair buzz-cut into a series of bear-claw scratch patterns. For that some of the other teams teased her, and she was demoted twice for fighting.[8]
