Description

A Scarab is a large Covenant vehicle. It is called a 'Scarab' because it resembles the shape of a large beetle. It has two small guns, one mounted on the front and one mounted on the back, and a large main gun positioned on the front.

Encounters
Scarabs are seen or encountered in Halo 2 and in Ghosts of Onyx.

A Scarab is first seen in the cinematic sequence before the campaign level Outskirts, where it fires its' guns upon three UNSC pelicans. It hits one pelican with its' main gun. Another is hit with the front turret, sending it crashing onto the rooftops of New Mombasa. It is this pelican which Sgt. Johnson and the Master chief are on. The third pelican gets past undamaged.

The same Scarab is encountered on the campaign level Metropolis, where the Chief must pursue it across part of New Mombasa, arriving at a marine outpost, where the Scarab easily destroys a Scorpion tank. The Master chief must then run along a platform next to the scarab. At this point several covenant troops get up to the main deck of the scarab and attempt to defend the scarab from UNSC forces.
