Walkthrough
Ranged Weapon Switching is a skill that is used to grab weapons from afar at the cost of at least one grenade (or explosive device). This is a trick that is easy to learn but hard to master.
This can be performed either with a Frag Grenade or a plasma grenades, or with a Rocket Launcher. Grenades are considered the best choice, as a rocket can make the weapon fly faster and farther, making ranged weapon switching harder to perform.

First, throw the grenade just behind your preferred weapon of choice. When the grenade explodes on impact and landing, the weapon will go flying towards you. Jump as the weapon gets past you and hold the action button. If done correctly, you should acquire the weapon at relatively small amount of time. If you already have that weapon in your disposal, you will only receive its ammunition. Explosive type and placement is vital to perform this trick properly, as you can easily send the desired weapon towards a wrong direction.
How to
First, throw the grenade just behind a weapon of choice such that the weapon is between you and the grenade. When the it explodes, the weapon will go flying over towards you (if you aimed right). Jump just as the weapon gets past you and hold (X). If done correctly, you should have the weapon in your grasp. If you already have that weapon in your disposal, you will just get the ammo.

This trick is mostly useful in Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2. In Halo 3, weapons can no longer be blown away by explosives. However, environmental devices such as fusion coils are still affected by nearby ordnance explosions. Ranged weapon switching makes a return in Halo 5: Guardians, with the ability exclusively possible with plasma grenades. It awards the Combat Evolved medal when performed correctly.
*Plasma Grenades: If you prefer accuracy and if you have time.
*Frag Grenades: If you have mastered the skill and are in need of time.
*Rocket Launcher: If your aim sucks. Bad.

This is very useful if you are in a dire need of another weapon to suit the situation, or if you need ammo. Possibly the most famous of these switches is the sniper-sword on lockout. As the match starts, the player runs to the sword spawn, grabbing plasma grenades on the way. After picking up the sword, the player runs forward and looks up at a wire crossing the map. The player uses the grenade to propel the sniper across the map into their arms. All this can be done in a few seconds at the start of the map.
