Battle for Earth
During the Covenant invasion of the city of New Mombasa, this Huragok, along with six others, were dispatched into the tunnels underneath the city, possibly to hack into the city's electronic systems and the Superintendent artificial intelligence. However, six other Huragok instead began to free this Huragok from its explosive harness. While the six others were killed, the Huragok survived and made its way into the data center of the Superintendent, where it began working on repairing the AI. During the process, the Huragok would save the badly damaged AI, and later absorb most of its data, including a subroutine, Vergil, into itself.

By the time Captain Veronica Dare and the Rookie arrived in the data center, they discovered Quick among the data stacks. As they escaped the facility, Quick provided them with energy shielding. Eventually, they managed to escape the city and extract Quick. A month later, Quick, which still had access to the proselytization network and held information on the Covenant, was being held on the Quito Terminus. He was interrogated by Sergeant Major Avery Johnson, and agreed to share any information he had, lighting Johnson's cigar as a friendly gesture. Using a data pad, Quick to Adjust created a text-to-speech program that gave himself a voice and allowed him to speak with his new human allies. Although the Huragok was interrogated by ONI on information relating to the Portal at Voi, they were unable to obtain any actionable intelligence before the Prophet of Truth arrived at Earth aboard Anodyne Spirit. During the interrogation, Quick to Adjust refused to divulge information on the Ark; instead, he lamented that all Huragok were abandoned by the Forerunners, and, by allowing the Covenant to activate the rings, the Huragok can return home and wait for the Forerunners to return. AI Barca generated the interrogation into a report for Lord Hood.

Working for ONI
While working with ONI, Quick to Adjust was given the name "Vergil" by Captain Dare because of his absorption of the Superintendent's subroutine. Additionally, the Huragok maintained a special connection to Sadie Endesha, as Vergil had originally been created by Sadie's father to take care of her. Vergil and Sadie participated in a number of field operations for ONI, including one in which they possibly aided in a new MJOLNIR development project on Talitsa in August 2555. While there, however, they were kidnapped by United Rebel Front forces and taken to one of the URF's strongholds on the planet. Although they were ultimately rescued by SPARTAN-IVs Edward Buck and Kojo Agu and taken to Mars, ONI deemed it too risky to allow the Huragok to work in the field again. Following the events on Talitsa, Vergil was moved to a secret ONI facility on Luna where ONI kept several of their other Huragok. Together, the Huragok formed a sort of brain trust that worked as consultants on all sorts of projects. Anyone who needed their help would need to book time with them as they would work as supercomputers to work on insanely complex problems. Instead of going out into the field and risking themselves to danger, problems were brought to the Huragok to solve.

Created conflict
In 2558, when the Created conflict broke out, the ONI facility was heavily damaged by the Guardians during the Subjugation of Earth. Forerunner armigers loyal to Cortana invaded the station and captured the surviving crew, including Sadie, while Vergil and the other Huragok hid out and worked to repair the station's systems. Shortly afterwards, Buck returned to the station seeking out Vergil for help with breaking Mickey Crespo out of prison. Vergil refused to leave until Sadie was rescued which Buck, Romeo and Dare reluctantly carried out. Following their rescue, Sadie and Vergil joined Alpha-Nine's mission. At the Spartan-IV training station, Vergil contended with the rogue AI Leonidas to help Buck reach Mickey and then to stop Leonidas' attempts to kill Buck. As Leonidas was about to vent the station's atmosphere and kill everyone inside, Vergil managed to knock out power to parts of the station briefly, giving Buck time to remove Leonidas' data crystal chip and effectively shut the AI down.

On Cassidy III, during a meeting with the local leaders of the United Rebel Front, Dare suggested loaning them Vergil to help figure out the Forerunner technology that cloaked their colony. However, the colony came under attack by a Created Guardian summoned by Leonidas. Vergil repaired the colony's ships so that as many people as possible could evacuate and then repaired the team's Condor when it was damaged by the Guardian so that they could escape. Vergil nearly fell to his death in the process and caused Buck to fall with him, the two holding on to each other as they fell. During the fall, Buck didn't expect to survive but believed that once Vergil got close to the ground and free of Buck, he would be able to float to safety. However, the two were saved by Buck's teammates, though Vergil very nearly fell out of the ship again, only to have Buck grab and stabilize him.
By the time Captain Veronica Dare and the Rookie arrived in the data center, they discovered the Huragok among the data stacks. As they escaped the facility, the Huragok provided them with energy shielding. Eventually, they managed to escape the city and extract the Huragok. A month later, the Huragok, which still had access to the Covenant battle network and held information on the Covenant, was being held on an ONI orbital facility. It was interrogated by Sergeant Major Johnson, and agreed to share any information it had, lighting Johnson's cigar as a friendly gesture.

As they escaped, Dare admitted that she lied about lending Vergil to the Front as he and Sadie were just too valuable to lend out for basic research. When Buck told Sadie that her father would be proud of her, Vergil reiterated the sentiment, reminding her that her father had programed the part of him that was most human, the part that had helped him to learn to care about her. Vergil told Sadie that he was also very proud of her, causing Sadie to give the Huragok a hug. Shortly afterwards, the team returned to the Infinity with Vergil and Sadie.
Trivia
*Like the other Engineers found in the game and in spite of its lack of armor, the Huragok still has shields to protect himself, and also is able to grant close friendly units shields, including the player (the only instance the player will be given energy shielding in ODST). However, the player has no shield monitor, and if playing on Legendary difficulty, the shields decrease in strength rapidly.
Production notes
*Though the Huragok itself has not been named at any point, it is identified as "VRGL" on the Rookie's HUD in Halo 3: ODST, due to the fact it held the Vergil subroutine in itself.
*Quick to Adjust is not named in Halo 3: ODST; he is only identified as "VRGL" on the Rookie's HUD the game, due to the fact he held the Vergil subroutine in himself. Halo: New Blood establishes that the Huragok was later universally known as Vergil because of this. The full name of the Huragok was first provided in a 2014 post by Catalog on the Halo Waypoint Forums.
*Like the other Huragok found in Halo 3: ODST and in spite of his lack of armor, Quick still has energy shields to protect himself, and also is able to grant shields to nearby friendly units, including the player (the only instance the player will be given energy shielding in the game). However, the player has no shield monitor, and if playing on Legendary difficulty, the shields decrease in strength rapidly.
