He led [[Master Chief]] to [[Sergeant Banks]]' position on the roof, and then he simply became another background [[Marine]]. Based upon his use of the expletive "coño" during the trailer, he is presumed to be of Spanish nationality or descent.

Perez was mentioned, but not seen, during the [[Battle of Installation 05]], in which the UNSC forces and the [[Thel 'Vadam|Arbiter]] raced against each other to gain possession of the [[Activation Index]], while the [[Flood]] tried to stop them. [[McKenzie (Marine)|McKenzie]] and Perez were with [[Miranda Keyes]] and [[Sergeant]] [[Avery Johnson]], and evidently the only two Marines to reach the Index chamber alive.

In the end cut-scene of Scared Icon, [[Sgt. Do you hear me, [[Marines]]?". That's the last link to them from the game. As the [[Arbiter (character)|Arbiter]] approaches [[Keyes]] and [[Johnson]]'s position within the [[Index]]'s chamber, he steps over the remains of two [[Human]] [[Marines]], presumably [[McKenzie (Marine)|McKenzie]] and Perez. They were most likely killed by remaining [[Combat Forms]] or [[Flood]] parasites.


McKenzie and Perez were tasked with securing the exit from the chamber, but it is unknown what exactly happened to them during this endeavor. They may have been killed by the Flood, killed by the Arbiter, or captured/killed by the [[Jiralhanae|Brutes]], as when Johnson calls them for their status, they do not respond. It is also possible he was captured by Tartarus beforehand, as on the level [[Gravemind]], you need to rescue some Marine POWs. This more likely of the two theories as his voice and character model can be seen whilst the chief and the escaped marines are leaving the cell block.
