The ''Pelosus''-pattern fireblade is one of the many energy sword variants manufactured by the Covenant. The ''Pelosus''-pattern is characterized by its circular blade contour around the hilt.{{Ref/Reuse|enc22}} Some ''Pelosus''-pattern energy swords contain a fail-safe mechanism that can permanently disable the weapon if the Sangheili wielding it drops it.{{Ref/Novel|FS|Page=74}} When dropped, the failsafe engages by deactivating the magnetic field before dispersing the plasma. It was then made available to players in ''[[Halo 2]]'' and the ''[[Halo 2: Anniversary]]'' [[multiplayer]] component in ''[[Halo: The Master Chief Collection]]''. The energy sword is a powerful melee weapon in close-quarters combat, capable of killing most foes with a single strike. It is a power weapon that appears on some multiplayer maps. In ''Halo 2: Anniversary'' multiplayer, the bloodblade variant is held by infected players in [[Infection]].
