The Outstanding Airman of the Year Ribbon was originally used by the [[United States of America|United States Air Force]]. Airmen selected as one of the numerous Outstanding Airmen of the Year were authorized to wear the bronze service star as well as the Outstanding Airman badge for one year. A bronze oak leaf cluster was worn on the Ribbon to denote each past or subsequent award.

In the [[United Nations Space Command]], the Outstanding Airman of the Year Ribbon is awarded to any member of the [[UNSC|UNSC Defense Force]] who is nominated by their Major Command, Field Operating Agency, or Direct Reporting Unit for competition in the 12 Outstanding Airmen of the Year Program.  


After the formation of the [[United Nations Space Command]], personnel could still be award this decoration, and it was still being awarded after [[2495]]. However, the criteria for the award had changed somewhat, as [[UNSC Navy]] personnel could wear the Ribbon.{{Ref/Note|[[Jacob Keyes]] wears this decoration on his uniform in ''[[Halo: Combat Evolved]]''. It can therefore be reasonably assumed that the criteria for earning the Ribbon was changed sometime between 2011 and 2552.}}
