==History==
Ilex Facility was involved in [[Operation: ECDYSIS]] - the ongoing study of [[Installation 07]] by the [[United Nations Space Command]]. While apparently not built on the [[Halo Array|Halo's]] surface itself,{{Ref/Map|Id=Location|HINF|Cliffhanger|Detail=No Halo ring is visible in the map's skybox, indicating the base is not on the ring itself.}} it was involved in studying materiel and technologies discovered on the ringworld. Some of the structures analysed at Ilex Facility included structural samples taken from Zeta Halo, which were able to yield a number of discoveries in mineralogy. However, despite active research, the base was unable to replicate the effects of [[reformation]] as demonstrated on the ring, due to being unable to reproduce the method in which [[Forerunner]] technology [[Assembler vats|turns]] raw materials into [[Smartmatter|useful structures]] even despite a number of workarounds implemented to boost the base's electrical power output to a fraction of that needed for full-scale testing.{{Ref/Reuse|S3Intel}}

Ultimately, the base's staff were unable to progress as rapidly in their understanding of Zeta Halo as the researchers on the [[shield world]] [[Trevelyan]] were - though remained hopeful that future discoveries may be able to assist [[human]]ity in [[Terraforming|restoring]] the multitude of [[Human colonies|colony worlds]] [[Glassing|glassed]] by the [[Covenant]] during the [[Human-Covenant War]].{{Ref/Reuse|S3Intel}}
