This glitch can be performed in all games of the Halo trilogy. Please note that in Halo 3 alone, the player shouldn't have a secondary weapon.

In Forge mode, have player spawn any weapon. Then, have player two pick that weapon up. As soon as player two picks up the weapon, player one has to delete it. If timed correctly, player two should have no weapon. If you enter a vehicle and get out, you will take out your original weapon. If you ever press the Y button you will take out your weapon. Elites model seemed to have a melee scripted, as if they were taken out directly from the campaign mode itself. They will lunge at enemies but are unable to hurt them.

It can also be done by charging a Plasma Pistol and picking up the ball in a game of Oddball. If the player backs up as soon as they pick up the ball, they will have no weapon.
