The M8900 has an angular design, featuring an armoured prow and several small armoured windows. The pod was favoured by the ODSTs during the later years of the [[Human-Covenant War]], due to being significantly faster than the older [[M8823 drop pod|M8823 HEV]]. This increased maneuverability makes the M8823 ideal for drops into areas heavily defended by anti-air weaponry.{{Ref/Reuse|Enc22}} The top of the pod is fitted with an air brake, while the bottom is fitted with reinforced impact plating to endure the landing.{{Ref/Reuse|EVG}}

==Operational history==
During the [[Human-Covenant War]], M8900s were the most common kind of drop pod favoured by ODSTs in the later war.{{Ref/Reuse|Enc22}} At some point after [[2540]], they were used to deploy ODSTs from {{UNSCShip|Kronstadt}} onto [[Heian]] in [[Operation: GREY VEIL]].
