The '''M8823 Human Entry Vehicle''' is a model of [[drop pod]] utilised by the [[Colonial Military Authority]] (CMA) and [[United Nations Space Command]] (UNSC). It was heavily employed during the [[Insurrection]] and [[Human-Covenant War]] by the [[Orbital Drop Shock Troopers]] (ODSTs), particularly used on vessels without the capacity to house and deploy large ODST contingents (such as [[UNSC frigate|frigates]]).{{Ref/Reuse|Enc22}}

The M8823 is a box-like design when compared to other [[drop pod]] designs, boasting a door and airframe coated in [[Titanium-A armor]]. When expelled, the door can be employed as cover by the occupant inside. The ODST inside sits in a crash web with minimal inertial dampening and comfort, and basic controls for course correction. However, the pod's internal computer directs the overall descent and evasive maneuvers. Upon entering atmosphere, the M8823 extends its drogue panels, as well as release decoys to draw enemy fire away while they begin to decelerate. At one kilometre above the surface, braking rockets engage to slow the pod down.{{Ref/Reuse|WF50}}

The side panels of the M8823 are storage bays, capable of holding spare food, weapons, ammunition and other supplies to sustain planetary operations for a short time without resupply.{{Ref/Reuse|WF50}}

The M8823 entered service in [[2461]]. and was heavily employed by the CMA and UNSC during the [[Insurrection]]. During the [[Human-Covenant War]] it was primarily employed on smaller ships that did not have the facilities to transport dedicated ODST groups,{{Ref/Book|Id=Enc22|Enc22|Page=152}} including the {{Class|Charon|light frigate}} and {{Class|Stalwart|light frigate}}.

==Operational history==
During the [[Human-Covenant War]], M8823s were commonly employed by ''[[Charon-class light frigate|Charon]]'' and ''[[Stalwart-class light frigate|Stalwart]]''-class [[UNSC frigate]]s. 600 were also present aboard the {{Class|Phoenix|colony ship}} refit {{UNSCShip|Spirit of Fire}}{{Ref/Book|Id=WF48|HWF|Page=48-49}}, and 124 aboard {{UNSCShip|Infinity}}.{{Ref/Book|Id=WF42|HWF|Page=42-43}} For its refit for [[Operation: RED FLAG]], 216 were part of the complement of the {{UNSCShip|Pillar of Autumn}}.{{Ref/Book|Id=WF25|HWF|Page=25}}
