The "jumpmine" is a Covenant spike explosive mine manufactured by the Sacred Promissory.{{Ref/Note|Id=name|While never officially named, the explosive is named as
jumpmine
in Halo 3 game files. ==Overview==
Though not an official name, the Brute Landmine can be seen on the multiplayer level Sandtrap. If the player moves outside of the map's border, these mines will automatically eject themselves from a buried position, rise vertically about two-three meters above the ground and detonate in a manner similar to a UNSC fragmentation grenade.
Design details
The jumpmine is a bounding mine designed to explode above a target. Its overall design resembles the Jovokada Workshop spike grenade, with spikes protrusions on its tip and body. Buried in vast minefields composed of hundreds of individual devices, these explosives are used to protect specific locations from troop movements. When an individual trespass this border up to a certain length, these mines will automatically eject themselves from their buried position, rising vertically about two to three meters above the ground, and detonate. As such, they can shower intruders—infantry or vehicles—with explosive debris. The mines are less effective against aerial targets, because they can only reach and explode on a relatively short height above the ground.

Operational history
These mines are located on Sandtrap and have a dual function of keeping people from entering and exiting the temple area. The mine itself looks very similar to a larger version of the Brute Spike Grenade, without the handle or the three main spikes on the top edges, and is extremely effective against vehicles and infantry.
At some point, Jiralhanae occupiers seized control of some nondescript Forerunner ruins on Installation 00, and planted these mines in the desert around the ruins to keep potential intruders out. The minefield, however, proved to be ineffective at keeping the UNSC forces of the Aegis Fate out of the area.

In-game information
Halo 3
Since the mine is designed to explode above a target, similar to the old air burst or a Bouncing Betty, it can shower the crews of vehicles like the Mongoose or Prowler, or regular infantry that are foolish to venture into the minefield, with explosive debris. The mine is less effective against aerial targets (because it will explode only a relatively short height above the ground) unless the player is flying relatively low to the ground. The mines can hurt players even if Invincibility is turned on, if they are in a Bubble Shield or behind a Deployable Cover, similar to the Automated Plasma Turrets in Snowbound.
The jumpmines appear exclusively in the Halo 3 multiplayer map Sandtrap. If players attempt to leave the map boundary set by the blinking lights at the edge of the play area, the jumpmines eject from the ground and detonate. Similar to the Shuku in Snowbound, the mines can injure players even when they are inside a bubble shield, or behind a deployable cover; even players under the effects of invincibility enabled by game settings would be killed in the explosions. If a player is killed by one of the mines, the kill will be credited to the Guardians. Overloading the map will remove the jumpmines from the match and prevent them from spawning by the player.

Production notes
Trivia
*The jumpmine is likely based on the WWII-era S-mine, more commonly known as the "Bouncing Betty".
*If by chance or luck you find a spot outside the perimeter where you aren't tripping the mines, you can see that the mines aren't entirely buried, as the top of the mine's heads can be seen visible in sparse groups of five or six.
*The jumpmine shares model and shader data with the Jovokada Workshop spike grenade. Superficially, the jumpmine appears to be a spike grenade without a handle and the tactile spike protrusions around the top.
*Only some vehicles can outrun the mine's blast. These being the Warthog, Ghost, Chopper and the Mongoose.
*Multiplayer Design Lead Tyson Green pursued the use of jumpmines in Sandtrap. According to environmental artist Justin Hayward, the jumpmine was a test of a system to prevent players from leaving the area, the other idea being the shrine defenders, which fire lasers at players that leave the play area. During development, the team tested both jumpmines and shrine defenders. Ultimately, the jumpmines were an ineffective barrier; they took too long to detonate and players can outrun their explosions. However, the team was unable to replace the jumpmines on Sandtrap with shrine defenders before the game shipped. The shrine defenders would later fulfil the same role in Sandbox from the Mythic Map Pack.
*Two direct hits from a landmine will kill you when traveling the mine field on foot.
*When the player speed is turned up beyond 200%, a player can easily outrun the mines' damage radius. When the player's speed is 300% and the player's gravity is 50% they can outrun the mines with even more relative ease.
*When high above the minefield, the mines will still come above ground and explode. But because of the mine's short jump height, it won't hurt you unless you're really close to the ground.
*Overloading the map with Trip Mines will prevent the mines from popping up and killing you, though it may still randomly come back. Note: The absence of the mines is only limited to the current game you're playing.
*The mines make the exact same noise as a Frag Grenade when exploding.
*The mines are activated by a thin orange beam, which is fired from one of the Easter Eggs in Sandtrap. The beam is commonly mistaken for a Sentinel Beam.
*They will stick to the bottom of vehicles and will slightly curve towards the vehicles.
*There was a land-mine in WWII, called the S-Mine, that operated in a similar fashion, the mine was present in Call of Duty: World At War, but the name was changed to Bouncing Betty's
