The '''Brute Bodyguard''' is a [[Brutes|Brute (Jiralhanae)]] specialty [[rank]]<ref>http://www.bungie.net/Stats/GameStatsCampaignHalo3.aspx?gameid=27585757&player=Kyle%20the%20Irish</ref>. They are responsible for the protection of their packs [[Brute Chieftain|Chieftain]] as well as for the enforcement of tribal law. Whenever there is a Chieftain nearby, you will encounter Brute Bodyguards which look very similar to [[Brute Captain|Captain]]s. Bodyguard Brutes are also seen to be protecting [[High Prophet of Truth|Truth]] on the level [[The Covenant (Level)|The Covenant]].  They are likely the replacement for the [[Honor Guard]] being that [[Tartarus]] also had Honor Guard protection. Brute bodyguards seem to favor Covenant weapons such as the [[Plasma Rifle]] and [[Carbine]] rather than their own native tech. They come in two variants: A more common, silvery-blue<ref>http://www.bungie.net/Stats/GameStatsCampaignHalo3.aspx?gameid=27585757&player=Kyle%20the%20Irish</ref> (with red under-armor) variant, and a less common, silver armored (with red under-armor) variant. Whether these variants signify differences in behavior or strength is unknown as of yet. They are first seen in [[Sierra 117]].

== Combat ==
Usually seen wielding [[Plasma Rifle]]s, [[Brute Spiker]]s, or [[Covenant Carbine]]s, Brute Bodyguards are a fairly easy kill on Normal. Their light, pale blue [[Power Armor]] is about the same strength as a [[Brute Major|Major Brute's]]. They are still dangerous, however. With Plasma Rifles, they can eat through the [[Master Chief|player]]'s shield in seconds; with Maulers they are deadly once John-117's shields are down. The [[Plasma Rifle]] cuts through their Power Armor like a hot steak knife through butter, as does a charged [[Plasma Pistol]] shot. After destroying their armor, a [[BR55 Battle Rifle]] headshot will work. Dual wielding a Plasma Rifle and a Mauler is possibly ''the'' best method of taking down a Brute Bodyguard.

== Differences with the Brute Captain  ==
The [[Brute Captain Ultra]]s and the typical Brute Bodyguard, look almost ''exactly'' the same (especially in dim lighting), but there are in fact slight differences in their [[Power Armor]] color and power. The [[Brute Captain]] Regulars have a violet tinge to the armor, but the Bodyguards have a more indigo color and their under-armor and garments are light crimson; however, in the heat of combat it's extremely difficult to differentiate between the two ranks. They replace the [[Jiralhanae Honor Guardsman|Brute Honor Guards]], from ''[[Halo 2]]''.
