:The title of shipmaster was simply used only to describe a Jiralhanae that commanded a ship, as most Jiralhanae shipmasters additionally held the title of Chieftain. Jiralhanae did not rise to the position of shipmaster as commonly as Sangheili or Kig-Yar did. [[Jiralhanae/Gameplay]]
Unlike Elites, who are supposedly tactical geniuses, the Brute combat mentality relies on overwhelming force, sheer strength, and incredibly strong firepower, hence the name "Brute". They are easily enraged, and when provoked, will drop their weapon and charge their opponent.
Halo-fans have often argued about Elites and Brutes and their combat-ability. Though combat superiority depends on the situation. Elites rely on intense tactical training, superior technology and agility. While Brutes tend to rely on their gigantic figures, close quarters combat, melee fighting, and being numerically superior. In Halo 2, the Brutes were added in at a late stage of production, and, due to time restraints, were left without much testing, making them rather overpowered foes. An example of this is that one berserk Brute is capable of killing two Elite Honor Guards, not to mention on difficulties normal and above two Brutes can take on an entire squad of UNSC Marines and win (usually in close-quarters). If playing Halo 3, in a battle between one Brute Minor and one Elite Minor, the AI dictates the Elite will usually win, depending on if it was a melee fight or not. However, this may be a matter of game play balancing as Elites are far and fewer in between their ranks.
