The Hydra, also referred to as the Hydra Launcher, is a human pickyp weapon first introduced in Halo 5: Guardians, but featured prominently throughout the entire series. It is a semi-automatic weapon which fires rockets which explode on impact, and deal enough damage to kill a Spartan in an average of 4-6 hits. To compensate for its power, it only has six rockets per magazine.

The Hydra is one of the more powerful weapons in Halo 5: Guardians and Halo Infinite. It features in both campaign and multiplayer, but is uncommon. In multiplayer, it is a powerful weapon and will typically be found in central map locations, where its spawn can be easily contested by multiple players. In campaign, it can be found in a handful of places.
Design details
Hydras are multiple-rocket launchers designed to fire 9X-G high explosive, airbursting (HEAB) gyroscopically-stabilised rockets. They are infantry-portable and held akin to a rifle. The fore of the weapon contains a revolving cylinder typically holding six rockets which can be semi-automatically fired in rapid succession. The Hydra's most unique feature is its lock-on. The weapons' targeting and detection suite is capable of locking onto enemy infantry and vehicles, with the rockets fired self-guiding onto these targets.
Unlock and acquisition requirements
This weapon can be unlocked in Halo 5: Guardians as well as Halo Infinite.

Halo 5: Guardians
In Halo 5: Guardians campaign and Arena multiplayer modes, the Hydra can be found on the level or map as usual, and does not need to be unlocked.

However, in Warzone, the weapon can only be acquired via the REQ system.

Halo Infinite
In Halo Infinites multiplayer modes, the Hydra can be found spawning on the map, as usual. In campaign, it can also spawn in certain locations on the open-world map and in missions, but to unlock it for on-demand spawning at FOBs

Variants
There are three notable variants of the Hydra, two of which were featured in Halo 5: Guardians as REQ variants.

History
Advantages
Hydras are relatively recent additions into the UNSC arsenal. As of 2558, the MLRS-1 Hydra had only been issued to operatives of the Spartan Operations division and had yet to see widespread usage among the regular military.
*High damage, typically a 4-6 kill
*Moderate explosion radius, making it easier to aim
*Has a tracking ability for moving targets and a non-tracking feature for more precise hits
*Reload is slow but loads one round at a time allowing the user to fire while reloading

Variants
Disadvantages
There are two major production lines of the Hydra in service - the MLRS-1 and MLRS-2. Each line has its own sub-variants.
*Reload speed is relatively slow
MLRS-1 Hydra
*Easy to accidentally hurt yourself with, if the projectile impacts too close

Tactics and strategies
The MLRS-2 Hydra is employed by UNSC forces operating on Installation 07.
**In campaign, save it for more powerful enemies like Elites or Brutes, and if enemies are using it, prioritise killing them over most other enemies in the vicinity.
*Pursuit Hydra: a variant of the MLRS-2 firing rockets with a higher velocity and lower targeting time.
**In multiplayer, ensure you or your teammates acquire the weapon before an enemy does, if possible.
