The Hugging Elite can be seen in a special Easter egg cutscene in Halo: Combat Evolved, obtainable by beating The Maw on Legendary difficulty, this Stealth Elite is seen wrestling with Sergeant Johnson over an MA5B Assault Rifle. They cease their fight when they notice the nearby Pillar of Autumn begin to explode. Johnson then spreads his arms, saying, "This is it, baby. Hold me." Before the nuclear explosion envelops them, the Hugging Elite obliges Johnson by hugging him. However, players who don't wish to beat The Maw on Legendary may see a cutscene of the cinematic in the Halo 2 Conversations from the Universe disc.

The fan-named Hugging Elite can be seen in a special non-canonical cutscene at the end of Halo: Combat Evolved campaign by completing the level The Maw on Legendary difficulty.

Overview
This event is non-canon, as Johnson survives the destruction of Installation 04 and appears in Halo 2.
A Stealth Sangheili (Zealot in Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary) is seen wrestling with Sergeant Johnson over an assault rifle. They abruptly end their fight when they hear a rumble and realize the nearby Pillar of Autumn is beginning to explode. Johnson mutters "Oh shi..." and then spreads his arms and says "This is it, baby! Hold me." Before the ship's reactor detonates, the Sangheili obliges and hugs Johnson. In the original Halo: Combat Evolved, just before the screen whites out, the Sangheili moves one of its hands down to grab Johnson's rear. However, in the Anniversary version of the scene, Johnson moves his hand down to grab the Sangheili's rear to which he reacts to with a shocked expression.

The cutscene, while only viewable on the Legendary difficulty setting, is not considered canon, since it was specifically made as fan-oriented humor. The novel Halo: First Strike reveals that Johnson and a few other survivors boarded a D77-TC Pelican just in time to escape the explosion, which makes this already dubious scene impossible.

In 2011, during an interview with Eurogamer, Bungie employee Eric Osborne jokingly explained that the character who died in the Easter egg was Sergeant Shwanson, Sergeant Johnson's doppelganger.
