The book is written as an archive from [[Auditor]] given to [[Invariant Bias]], Monitor of the [[Absolute Record]], which contains information from the [[Forerunner-Precursor war]] to [[The Harbinger]]<nowiki>'s</nowiki> defeat.
 
The book's meta-narrative is framed as an communications log between [[Adjutant Revendicate]] - the [[sub-monitor]] of [[Installation 07]] created from the mind of the [[Auditor]] - and [[Invariant Bias]], Monitor of the [[Absolute Record]].
