Plot synopsis
The Cradle of Life is a story about a Tribal Elder. It takes place in Africa 100,000 years ago.
The Cradle of Life is set 100,000 years ago prior to the firing of the Halo Array at the end of the Forerunner-Flood war. The comic tells the story of N'chala, a prehistoric human and the elder of his tribe in Africa, who goes every morning to the same spot in the plains and watches over them to observe something special happening. N'chala describes that the "gods" are building their machines in a large lake on the plains of Africa. This structure, being constructed by several Strato-Sentinels, appears to be the portal to the Ark. N'chala doesn't understand these "gods" but he is said to paint for months to tell their story, pondering if the "gods" will ever reveal themselves to him. Until then he will watch and wait.

The comic tell the story of N'chala, wich is use to go every morning at the same spot in the plains, and wacht something special. the comic imply that some "gods" ( Forerunner ?) are building a huge machine on the ground of this plain of Africa (Maybe this is the Ark).

This activation is known to be the reason of the Forunners disparition.
Artificial
But according to Joe Staten Interview, one couldn't say that the forerunner vanished : Inscrutable alien beings with problematic ethics never die... they just fade away. We can only assume that he is trying to say that Forerunners are still alive.

Some speculations says that Forerunners are just human peoples. This could be true, but the Craddle of Life comic is a proof that humans and Forerunners wheren't at the same level of knowledge 100,years ago. So it is possible that Forerunner are not the same kind as Humans.

|title-4=Miscellaneous|
The other reason that could help us think that Forunner are not dead is the use of a Shield World to avoid the lethal action of Halo. Maybe few Forerunners made it to a Shield World like Onyx and, after the Halo activation, they went back to normal space and began a knew life, a new begining.

There is another reason who can lead us to think that Forerunners didn't disapeard 100,000 years ago. In the  Halo: Ghosts of Onyx book, on page 237, it is said that the Engineers are also called "Huragok", and that the word "Huragok" is a Forerunner word : "Huragok: the Forerunner name for the Engineer race".
It clearly implies that The Covenant (Or one race into The Covenant) is linked to the Forerunners close enought to know their language. We can also believe that The Covenant found out the translation of this word on some wall paintings in one of the several Forerunners constructs (Like Cortana did on Alpha Halo) but it still implies that the Forerunner knew the Engineers, met them and gave them names.

IRIS connections
The website was found via an ad in the June Circuit City and Best Buy circulars. This site was part of the IRIS alternate reality game. On the last page of the comic, to tie into N'chala telling their story, there are three panels with various painted walls, each able to be moved or clicked with the mouse to reveal certain numbers. When the numbers were arranged in order, they became an IP address, 206.16.223.65, which initially led to a site called the Transmission Log.

Trivia
Trivia
*The name "Cradle of Life" may be a reference the fact that Earth, and more specifically Africa are seen as the birthing place of modern man.
Some hidden informations hidden in this comics helped people find the 206.16.223.65 web server, regarding the viral campaing "Iris" annoucing some news about Halo 3.
*N'chala is similar to the Arabic word, inshallah, which means "God willing".
