Balaho is the planet from which all of the [[Covenant]] [[Unggoy]] (Grunt) race originally migrated from.
"Ancient stepping-stones" of [[Forerunner]] creation can be found on this planet.<ref>[http://halosm.bungie.org/story/forerunner.html "Their relics are not restricted to Halo network. [...<nowiki>] [T]</nowiki>he ancient stepping-stones of the Grunt's homeworld...give testament to this galaxy's permeation."] A source isn't given, but the page also contains information from [[Halo: First Strike|First Strike]] released prior to the book's publication[http://forums.bungie.org/halo/archive12.pl?read=337444], which suggests that the information probably came from inside Bungie.</ref> There intended purpose is unclear. According to a comment [[Talk:Grunts (Unggoy)#Ancient_stepping-stones?|here]], the stones are also mentioned in one of the novels.
== Topology and Climatology ==
The Grunt Homeworld, Balaho (star,position: Tala IV), is a planet with an atmosphere of methane. It is covered in a largely opaque layer of clouds, which prevents much of its surface from being seen from space. Alot of parts of the planets surface is covered in polar ice caps, but the parts of the surface that aren't covered in polar ice caps or free water are brackish tidal flats with naturally occuring pillars of fire. Balaho is still in the process of recovering from preactivation environmental collapse due to massive global overindustrialization. Balaho has two natural satellites, Buwan and Padpad.
The gravity is approximately .709 G.
It should be noted that the Grunt Homeworld may not necessarily be one uniform biome or temperature like stereotypically conceived in science fiction. Most known worlds are ''different'' biomes existing adjacently with respect to each other.
== Atmosphere == | |||
The atmosphere is 5.7 atm (CO2, CH4, He) which has been noted to be necessary for Grunt life, possibly even cellular respiration.
