Eric Nylund is the author of three of Halo's Novels; ''[[Halo: The Fall of Reach]]'', ''[[Halo: First Strike]]'', and ''[[Halo: Ghosts of Onyx]]''. Despite this, his actual job is as a writer for [[Microsoft]] Gaming Studios. His job is to develop character and story bibles, write backstory, prepare materials for Marketing, write game manuals, write game scripts, consult on voice casting, direct voice actors, and coordinate with MS Localization, Legal, and Geopolitical departments
Eric Nylund was born in 1964, and spent his youth in California. He has a bachelor's degree in Chemistry and a master's degree in Chemical Physics. In the 1990s, he was hired by Microsoft as a writer for the company's multimedia properties. He later moved on to serve as lead of Microsoft's Narrative Design team, tasked with world-building, developing character and story bibles, preparing materials for marketing, writing game manuals and scripts, consulting voice casting and directing voice actors, and coordinating with MS localization, legal, and geopolitical departments.{{Ref/Reuse|linkedin}} He has written novels, backstory and scripts for several games, including ''Halo'', ''[[Wikipedia:Crimson Skies|Crimson Skies]]'' and ''[[Wikipedia:Gears of War|Gears of War]]''.
