Various intelligent species and civilizations of the [[Milky Way]] galaxy have developed and used drugs for millennia.

As a hegemony of multiple client species, not all drugs found in the [[Covenant]] can necessarily be traced to only a single one. These formulations were used widely amongst the citizens of the empire, and some continue to evade firm classification in the post-war era. One of the most easily recognizable examples of a shared drug formulation was the [[sealant mesh]], a thin sheet of bronze-colored material that, when properly affixed, formed a partial seal over wounds.<ref name="ch258">'''Halo: Contact Harvest''', ''page 258''</ref> The most important part of this mesh was a coagulant that would attenuate clotting of the blood. Poisonous substances and bioweapons also existed in the Covenant, and continue to do so among what remains of it. 26th-century humanity has developed a myriad of different treatment options for acute injuries, whether suffered in battle or purely through unlucky happenstance. One of the most widespread necessities for medics is [[biofoam]], a self-sealing, space-filling coagulant and an antibacterial, tissue-regenerative foam polymer used for first aid. The active ingredients are dispersed in a polyethyltriphosphate foaming medium alongside nitrous oxide and are stored in a pressurized canister. One of these active ingredients is [[morphophetamine]], which acts in concert with the nitrous oxide as an anesthetic.  Biofoam is standard to all [[health pack]]s used by [[United Nations Space Command]] personnel. Health packs also commonly contain [[polypseudomorphine]], a sedative and analgesic, as well as antiseptic dressings. For those who have lost an excessive amount of blood, [[polymerized hemoglobin]] can be mixed with saline and administered as a temporary hemoglobin replacement. [[Dermacortic steroids]] are another class of drugs that can be given when a person has suffered severe burns or other tissue injuries in order to stimulate regrowth. Similar, [[MediGel]] can be rubbed into a wound to accelerate the healing process. For injuries suffered to one's bones, [[bone-knitting polymer]] is able to injected through a cauterized incision and begin to promote bone healing. For head injuries, [[Chorotazine]] is an injectable drug that can alleviate pain associated with the like.
