===Design details===
The CQB variant specializes in the improvement of survivability in close quarters engagements, this was done in the dispersal of kinetic energy, by looking at alternate methods to disperse the kinetic energy versus momentum transferred by a Spartan during combat. In addition the CQB's armor components are designed to optimize joint mobility in close quarters, and have an improved field of view.{{Ref/Reuse|EVG}}{{Ref/Reuse|h3shoulder}}{{Ref/Reuse|bnet}}{{Ref/Reuse|h3body}}

Although CQB surpasses [[CQC-class Mjolnir|CQC]] in overall integration, the variant's ability to allow ''ad hoc'' modifications is limited in comparison.{{Ref/Reuse|EVG}}{{Ref/Book|Id=EVGCQC|EVG|Page=40}} The helmet is compatible with the [[AN/PCK-221 FARNDALE]] Command Network Module, the [[AN/PZY-990T STARLIGHT]] and [[PZY-955SSA WILLOW]] remote sensors and the [[UA/Type C1|Type C1]] UA module.

As early as [[2525]] developmental Mjolnir permutations utilized physical architecture that would eventually be used for CQB.{{Ref/Site|URL=https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/news/canon-fodder-a-time-to-give-tanks|Site=Halo Waypoint|Page=Canon Fodder: A Time to Give Tanks|D=28|M=7|Y=2021}}{{Ref/Site|URL=https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/forums/db05ce78845f4120b062c50816008e5d/topics/about-that-fall-of-reach-animated-series-trailer/e114975f-ddcc-4109-bf72-e4d8efc29ec5/posts?page=2#post37|Site=Halo Waypoint|Page=About that Fall of Reach Animated Series Trailer|D=28|M=7|Y=2021}} [[Samuel-034]] used such a variant during the [[Battle of Chi Ceti]]{{Ref/Film|TFoRAS}} and [[Daisy-023]] used a similar variant.{{Ref/Film|Homecoming}}
When evaluating different opportunities to improve MJOLNIR across an assortment of engagement types, German-based [[Beweglichkeitsrüstungsysteme|Mobile Armament Systems]] proposed two distinctive variants [[MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor/CQC variant|CQC]] and CQB using data gathered from the UNSC's [[Battle of Jericho VII|campaign]] on [[Jericho VII]] in [[2535]].<ref name="EVG"/><ref>'''[[Halo: The Fall of Reach]]''', ''page 1'' (2001 and definitive editions); ''page 15'' (2010 edition)</ref> Both variants were developed with one focus, that is to further improve the survivability in close quarter engagements.<ref name="EVG"/> Field-tested at the Special Warfare Center in [[Wikipedia:Essen|Essen]], [[Unified German Republic|Deutschland]], and integrating feedback gathered from SWC [[Seongnam]], [[Wikipedia:Korea|Korea]], the CQB was used successfully throughout 2552 and its advances were eventually incorporated into the Mark VI series.<ref name="EVG"/><ref name="bnet"/>

===Design===
Launched as part of the Mark V generation of MJOLNIR,<ref name="EVG"/> the CQB variant specializes in the dispersal of kinetic energy, by looking at alternate methods to disperse the kinetic energy versus momentum transferred by a Spartan during combat.<ref name="bnet"/><ref>'''[[Halo 3]]''', ''armor description''</ref> In addition the CQB's armor components are designed to optimize joint mobility in close quarters, coupled with integrated protection plating the CQB variant improves combat survivability in MOUT conditions.<ref name="EVG"/><ref name="bnet"/>

The CQB helmet offers several unique advantages, the first is its improved field of view thanks to its oval T shaped visor and the second is its close quarters centered software-sensor integration. Although the CQB helmet surpasses the CQC in overall software-sensor integration the variant's ability to allow ad hoc modifications is limited as such modular upgrades are limited.<ref name="EVG2">'''[[Halo: The Essential Visual Guide]]''' ''page 40''</ref>

===Usage===
The CQB helmet features a roughly oval "T" shaped visor with two large cheek guards. The top of the helmet is reinforced by a black alloy that forms a protective brace on top. Two upgrades are available for the helmet, the first adds a Hardened Uplink/Remote Sensor Package on the left side with a Command Network Module-Improved on the right side HU/RS/CNM-I, and the second adds an Up-Armor plate with a Hardened Uplink Module on the left side (UA/HUL).
The CQB armor was used successfully throughout 2552.{{Ref/Reuse|EVG}}

===''Halo: Reach'' - Mark V GEN1===
The shoulder pauldrons are worn significantly lower than those of the standard Mark VI armor. They consist of a rectangular, slightly curved metal plate that is attached approximately where the deltoids, biceps brachii, and brachialis muscles converge. In actual combat, this would greatly improve the ease at which a SPARTAN-II moves the arms for close quarters combat, but increase the shoulder and upper arm's exposure to damage.
The CQB helmet is available as an unlockable helmet [[Armor customization (Halo: Reach)|armor permutation]] in ''Halo: Reach''. Alongside the [[MP-class Mjolnir|Military Police]] helmet and [[Armor accessories/UA|UA/Base Security <nowiki>[W]</nowiki>]] chest, it cannot be unlocked in ''Halo: Reach'' through regular in-game means. Instead, it is unlocked by completing [[achievement]]s for ''Halo 3'' and ''[[Halo 3: ODST]]'' and [[career milestones]] on ''Halo Waypoint''. Following the shutdown of [[Xbox 360]] ''Halo'' online services in December [[2021]], this achievement will no longer be attainable.{{Ref/Site|Id=shutdown|D=01|M=6|Y=2020|URL=https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/news/sunsetting-halo-xbox-360-game-services-in-2021|Site=Halo Waypoint|Page=Sunsetting Halo Xbox 360 Game Services in 2021}}

===''Halo 5: Guardians'' - Upgraded GEN1===
Like in most other MJOLNIR variants, the chest plate seems to be a plate of alloy attached to the already existing Mark VI armor underneath. It consists of an additional set of four plates fused together in the body, and a tubular object at the bottom part of the chest plate which could either be a handle or some sort of canister due to its shape. There is an unusable [[Combat knife]] on the plate as well in a built-in sheath. In early development, the outer part of the chest piece was part of the secondary color group. Why this was changed is unknown.
The CQB helmet was one of a number of ''Reach''-themed helmets and armors added into ''[[Halo 5: Guardians]]'' via the [[List of REQ cards/REQ Packs|Classic Helmet REQ Pack]].

*According to a survey taken by Bungie around 14 March 2008, the CQB chest was the most used Spartan chestpiece in ''Halo 3'', and the helmet was the fourth most used.{{Ref/Site|URL=https://halo.bungie.net/News/content.aspx?cid=13368|Site=Bungie.net|Page=Bungie Weekly Update: 3/14/08|D=13|M=10|Y=2014}}

*According to a survey taken by Bungie, the CQB chest is one of the most used Spartan chest plates on Xbox Live.{{Citation needed}}
*In the ''[[Halo Legends]]'' episode ''[[Homecoming]]'', [[Daisy-023]] is seen wearing what appears to be this variant of MJOLNIR armor during the [[Harvest Campaign]]. However, as the predecessor to the CQB did not enter service until [[2548]] this is not possible. The armor worn by ''Daisy-023'' in ''Homecoming'' is actually an artistic license that enabled the studio to employ visual variety, while containing a minor element of canon; the color of the armor, which is meant to be an element of camouflage for the reddish desert environment she was operating in.<ref>'''[[Halo Legends]]''', ''[[Homecoming]]'' "Director's Commentary"</ref>
*The CQB helmet very closely resembles the main character from the videogame ''Timeshift'''s helmet. Whether this resemblance was intentional by Bungie, Saber Interactive or neither is unknown.
*The [[Mark IV]] [[MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor/Mark IV(G)|Grenadier]] shoulder pieces bear a striking resemblance to the CQB shoulders from Halo 3.
