'''Butterflies''' are insects with large, often brightly colored wings capable of conspicuous, fluttering flight.  
There were butterflies on [[Installation 00]] in [[2552]]. There were both purple and a yellow butterflies. They had dark patches on their upper two wings and two splotches on their lower wings. Whether any still inhabit the Ark presently, following the firing of [[Installation 04B]], is unknown.

They can be found in certain areas of long grass, on the multiplayer level ''[[Valhalla]]''.<ref>'''[[Halo 3]]''', campaign level, ''[[Valhalla]]''</ref> They seem to be found in groups of threes, and always stay in the same location each match. One example of a group of yellow butterflies is in the center hill (where the [[M6 Grindell/Galilean Nonlinear Rifle|Spartan Laser]] spawns), at the base of the middle tree on the right (if looking towards the lake base).
They are unaffected by any players actions - they cannot be shot or killed and don't react to close proximity of [[Human]]s, or [[Sangheili]].


==Description==
They have a darker patch on their upper two wing, and two dots on the lower wings. Both sides of the wings are identical; however, the body is black on the top and a peach color on the bottom.
The butterflies indigenous to Installation 00 comprise a diversity of primary colors, including purple, yellow, red, white, and blue.{{Ref/Reuse|Halo 3}}{{Ref/Reuse|HW2}}
